Time To Say Goodbye (Not Bad!!)

Nanci

Alien Lover
Since Jasper and Pepper have moved away, I guess it is time to remove the collection of their sheds from my dresser. I don't know why I find it so hard to throw them away at the time, I guess because they are such delicate, pretty things, proof that the boys are thriving.

LOL

I do the same thing. I just threw my collection away last week after Caedus left me a beautiful shed.

Such a hard goodbye.
I've still got all the sheds. I don't know when I'll throw them away.
maybe never. who knows.

Elle, they just moved out to the rack to 66 qts, and I put Zee back in his old 10 gallon, since he's just not going to be a big snake, and I put Noah in the other 10 gallon, since he's not supposed to be a big snake. The corns, OTOH, are going to just keep on growing! That only leaves me with three babies in 10 gallons, but they are all hiders, and the biggest is Lily at 65 grams or so. Calli is around 25g, and Ruby around 50g.

Look at him- he's three years old! That's him on his 10 gallon. All he cares about is burrowing, anyway, and sometimes a dip in his bowl. Isn't he a beauty, though? He's just a nice litle worry-free snake.

I've still got all Lil's sheds from her first year, and quite a few from the other snakes, I just can't throw them away!
Zee is about due a photo-shoot I'd say (pleeeeeeeeeease!)

I used to save all my sheds... then the puppy I was fostering at the time found them all and decided they were nice play things!

I guess once you have 15+ snakes the sheds get a little less sentimental.

Donate the old sheds (and hatched, dried eggs) to the local nature center, or a local grade school teacher with an interest in nature. Then you won't have to just "throw them away" and they will get a new life with some excited kids! That is what I do.

I have sheds from all my snakes. I have one from Snow, too. Like a nice keepsake for the future - or when I no longer keep snakes. Also, to see how they grow.
I would never throw them away unless they were bad.

I agree with Kathy or giving them away.

I guess I'm just a meanie because I take them out of the box and throw them into the trash. :dunce:

I have sent a few "perfect" sheds to school with my 8 year old daughter though.

dude... Zee is a hognose?! I never even knew tricolors existed!! I figured it was some milk snake hybrid! thats really cool!

That's pretty much how I felt when I first found out there was such a thing! Had to have one. There are several species from South America, called False Coral Snakes. See if you can find a picture of Lystrophis dorbignyi- they just began being bred in captivity a couple years ago, and started at $1200, but have come down now. Look at the belly!

Zee's species, L. pulcher, also comes in bi-color, black and red and black and white.

I'm a meanie too I guess. I have no sheds from my snakes. They are all in the landfill some place...lol
