My Dream Car!!

Kiss My Hearse
My husband and I finally were able to find a hearse in primo condition that was affordable (for us). This is a 1992 Cadillac Braugham Superior, all original, only recently retired from service. She's going to be our camper, parade car, etc. Her name is Diana, aka Lady Die. We just picked her up today. We're so excited! It's not the car for everyone and I'm sure there are those who won't understand our love for hearses. Diana is only the first. There will be more!

She soooo needs a paint job! I love them too. I want an antique one one day. My 48 chevy is not quite teh same but I love her too.

Very kewl, Kathy.. I am very happy for you both that you found a hearse you like..:)

What kind of pain job were you thinking of... I am very curious would love to see the before and after pictures.. ( if not in real person..)

Cheers,

That's pretty big. Does it have a 5 litre engine like the "regular" Cadillac Brougham or did they go bigger?

I truly can't imagine this car any other colour. If she was black, she'd look like every other hearse out there. This way she stands out.

I'd like a candy apple red hearse with a black top someday, maybe a street rod.

Hmm, I'll have to check. I'm just bummed that the bier pins are missing. Those are the little doohickeys that keep caskets from sliding around in back. There was a casket "key" under the front seat, so that was a bonus.

Very nice hearse..though I'm not one to be found driving one, to each their own when it comes to your dream car..lol...

Just for fun here is my dream car:

One of my best friends growing up owned a funeral home, so the kids' first cars were always hearses. They painted them up really funky and they were so awesome!

I love the color of yours as it is. Have you taken any photos of the interior?

I have to ask....what were your neighbors' thoughts when they saw the hearse that wouldn't leave parked in front of your home?

She's a beauty! I love hearses, very cool! You should paint her pink, or black with pink trim (pink painted rims and small details here and there)

I just thought she needs paint because of the black top with the white bottom...not a great combo to me. Just my opinon though. She is your baby! I personally would go all black with purple blue irridecent flames...just me though!

Can I be the first to ask, why a hearse? I find it absolutly fascinating and can't wait to hear your answer :)

Many people think that hearses are only around to haul dead bodies. The more important truth is that these vehicles are the top of the line, some of the most luxurious cars manufactured (and the manufacturing itself is quite impressive), designed for the single purpose of transporting someone's beloved relative or friend to their final resting place. It is their duty and honor to carry that person in comfort and style until their remains can be interred. Make no mistake, these are luxury cars. Hearses are instantly recognizable, everyone knows it at a glance. To myself and my husband they are not creepy, gross or otherwise different from any other car. We love their look, the long, sleek body like the station wagons from our youth. Because we don't have a garage to store it or work on restoration, we wanted a newer hearse in good condition for our first. This one is in such good condition that we wanted to keep it stock so we can get parts for it if we need to. The fact that it's white with the black top makes it less "ominous" to other people and more obvious that it was a working vehicle, just like a cab or tow truck (for bodies, mwahaahaa). It isn't boring or uncool because it isn't black. We will buy more hearses, hopefully some from the 50's and 60's, and we will have a few tricked out, but this one is our first and she's very special. We both also love semi trucks, especially the long nose Kenworth style, but that's waaaay out of our price range and level of maintenance experience, plus there's nowhere to park one!

Driving a hearse as an every-day car reminds me of Six Feet Under, where Claire drove a green hearse. Cool. Hers was like a teenager hippie hearse, though, not an elegant creature like your Di.

I'm sort of sad to not have a dream car. Nothing. I've been having strong cravings for a motorcycle or a scooter, but can't decide. My truck will be paid off in a year, now- or less if I pay bigger payments. I could get something, but how to decide???

What Ive learned with vehicles is you have to go after what you really want. If you are going to be paying thousands of dollars for something, shouldn't it be something you enjoy owning? Be it on road, off road, unique or traditional.

That was our theory. If someone messes with it because its parked on the street, we have insurance and its new enough that we can find parts. We weren't going to put it off any longer. I'd love to use it as a daily driver, but you can't park a 20+ ft long car just anywhere! LOL

I have to say driving one of those would give me the willies personally.
I couldn't do it! But I am glad you found your dream car.

"...Driving a hearse as an every-day car reminds me of Six Feet Under..."

First thing I thought of too, lol!

Those ARE some novel wheels! Not exactly my style, but really glad you could get something you have wanted for so long. What kind of gas mileage does it get?
