Sunkissed (Sunkist) Corns

This is from a clutch of Okeetees het for Sunkist that just hatched out. I think these are going to be REAL tough to tell from the type 'A' Hypomelanistic Okeetees......

Now this is more typical of what I would expect a Sunkist corn baby to look like:

Head flattened and ready to nip at your fingers....

Here's another one, but a bit more mellow and just inquisitive about the camera:

I have to say, that second picture looks more like what I'd expect from a sunkissed okeetee. The first one is indistinguishable from normal hypos...

And it's not just the posture on the second one... the colors (especially the yellow), the shape of the headmarking (kind of a triforce shape), and the squarish saddles all scream sunkissed to me. That having been said, I've only seen three sunkisseds in person, all of whom were half-siblings to one another, but that second pic looks like he could easily be related to them.

One thing I've noticed on the ones I have, the borders stay purplish as adults.. The adult hypo A's I've seen all have had brownish borders instead. It'd be something to keep an eye on as the morph gets outcrossed with non-okeetee lines, as if the property holds true, then atleast the adults will be distinguishable from one another.

Very nice.

Well, see, here's the problem.

All of the Sunkist corns (sorry, that's just easier for my fingers to type) in this thead came from the same project stock. These were the "what the heck!" corns that resulted when I bred the original Sunkist corns into my Okeetee het for Hypo stock a few years ago. So the parents of these animals are not only definitely het for Sunkist, but they are possibly het for 'A' (or whatever) Hypomelanism.

The second two photos, yeah, no doubt they are Sunkist Corns, but what about the top photo? ALL of the Hypo animals in that clutch look just like that one in the photo.

So what do I label them as? Can I REALLY be sure they are Sunkist Corns? But I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable calling them Hypomelanistic Okeetees either. Are both types mixed into that first clutch and they just all look identical?

Guess I'd better make up a bunch of labels with just a question mark on it.

Hehe... Mystery Morph cornsnakes for sale... Almost as bad as Milkshakes... :) We need a reliable way to test what a corn is het for without using up half their breeding years on test pairings. ;)
