Elusive

Totally irrelevent.
The power went out for a little bit so I decided to post some more pics.

While I was doing this I was holding my snake in my left hand (typing with one hand!!) She crawled into my pocket and now i'm having trouble getting her out...

The breeder told me she was a Candy Cane, but i'm not totally sure she is all candy. She looks a wee different than most candy pics i've seen.

I've been wondering about this since you first posted pics of her. I'm not sure that she IS a candy cane... But whatever she is, she's beautiful!!!

Maybe i'll ask around, hopefully someone knows what she is...

If not, I will know that I have a special snake!

Not sure who you got her from, but there's quite a bit of orange coming in on her background color already. A really good candy cane stays as white as possible. :shrugs:

If you got it from a pet store or someone who doesn't know, often times people will breed two candy canes together and sell the hatchlings as candy canes. The problem is that candy cane is a selectively bred Amelanistic trait. You can't know for sure what's going to come out of the breeding, nor can you know for sure how much white will stay in the background, because the yellow and orange that "muddies" the water doesn't come in right away after hatching. It starts to show up a few months down the road . . . about when/where it's showing up now in your snake. For lack of a better expression, it's kind of a crap shoot when it comes to candy canes.

You do have a very intriguingly (is that a word? I don't know) patterned Amel at any rate. It definitely catches the eye!

PS. If you do a search for "candy cane" in the photo gallery, you should come up with some great examples.

Well, I was looking at some pics and I found a good pic of a snake that does looks really like her.

If it just pops up a random snake, just look through until you see the Amelanistic Motley Banded Corn Snake

That what she kind of looks like, but not totally. I bought her from a breeder in town and she was my first corn ever, he said she was a candy cane so thats what I've been saying what she was.

Well the third link that you posted, and the 3rd and 4th pictures down are pretty near what she looks like, but My snake has always had a little different pattern and the orange going down her body.

The world may never know :)

Can someone give me some suggestions what she really is? She's getting more and more orange - or I think - I might be going crazy, she is also getting bigger! Here's some more pics of her that I took today - she's just too curious of the camera so 75% of the pics that I took are of her nosing the camera :p

I really wanna know what she is, I called the breeder but he didn't answer so i'm having some bad luck. What I remember though, his corn was very very orange. The male might of been a Candy Cane, but i'm not 100% sure.

Give me some ideas what you think she is.

:dgrin:I have another question...

My corn is has a checkered bottom until about half way, then its just plain red. Is that normal?

Yes, that can be very normal. The checkered bottom would also indicate that he/she isn't a banded motley.

You have an Amel with a very interesting pattern.

K thanks a lot! When she gets bigger maybe she'll change color a little bit. She does have a little black on one side of her. Its in like a lot of little dots, basically its the cut off before she changed from checkered to plain red.

I know what your snake is, it is a frankenstien snake, someone has taken half a hypo and half a candy can and sewn them together. So the top half has just a little black and normal red and orange, and the bottom has just the red and white. There you go, mystery solved. Maybe you can enter it in the halloween contest! ;)

I managed to get a hold on the breeder

Sunglow and a Candy Cane.

Why would they want to breed these to colors together? I mean they both are selective breed Amels for different looks.

Sunglow is a red and orange snake with no white.
