Help about heating.

Elusive

Totally irrelevent.
I just bought a thermomter with a probe. I put it inside the hide on the warmer side, I decided to put it about 1 cm down so it wont be moved too much when she's in there. I went to check the heat an hour later and it was a blazing 85 F

So I thought it was because it was buried so I unburied to and just set it on top. Now its at 75 F... I'm so confused :-/

I would leave it! 85 F is good for the hot side. Check the cool side to see that it is somewhere around 75 F. LOL.

You place the probe against the floor of the your cage/tank/viv. Right above your heat source UTH/flexwatt. This will give your the hottest reading that the snake will get in contact with. 85 is OK. I like 83-better but 85 is OK.
Your new temp of 75 is because the probe is farther away from the hottest point, thats all.

Put it back ...against the heat source.

When I set it on top, i figured out my problem. First of all, the probe points up! Then, I have about an inch of substrate from the UTH. I remember some substrate then put it back on top, its at about 81 degrees, w/o even the light on. I then put it deep, and sure enough. 85 degrees.

I put it on the cool side and it was reading 78 on the very bottom, and 75 at the top w/o it being covered with substrate.

Is this okay?
