Some of your questions will start a debate because there are not real hard and fast rules. Many people feed in a separate box. I do not. The main idea is that you don't want the snake to swallow any substrate with its meal. I keep my snakes on paper so that is not an issue. You can put the mouse on a small paper plate and not worry about picking up wood shavings with the meal.

Heat mats are good and should be placed at one end of the viv. The temperature in the substrate should be around 85* F. That is the hot end, the cool end will then be somewhere around 75 or 70*.

You can handle your snake every day or even a couple of times a day if you like. The only real restriction is that you shouldn't handle it for around 48 hours after feeding.

I agree with Wade. I'll add that some get a bit of an attitude when they are in shed and don't want to be handled.
