Hi Just Wondering whats the best way to feed a corn will i feed him in his viv or should i take him out if his viv and feed him in a container... if i take him out to feed in container how long should i leave him to eat before moving him back to his viv???

Thanks...

I prefer to use a feeding container. This way there is no chance of a snake accidentally ingesting any substrate.

I leave my snakes in the feeding container at least 10 mins after eating.

my hatchlings get fed in their container as they are only on newspaper and same with my pythons but my older corns that are on substrate get fed in a container.

well i feed him in his viv. mostly because i cant see myself taking a 5 foot long hungry snake out of its tank. but i just make sure that i cover his substrate with a piece of paper.

I feed mines in a separete container, i wait like 5 minutes after he eats to put him back in his viv.

It's best to feed in a separate container for several reasons. It prevents ingesting substrate, as Rich said. It also prevents the snake from associating your hand entering its viv with feeding, and reduces chances of a mistaken feeding strike on your fingers. feed mine in a separate container, and usually return them gently to their viv shortly after they finish swallowing.

I do the same but feed in a separated container also give you a chance to examine your snake, clean the cage, water and so on.

Snakes will not associate the hand with feeding unless the only time you open the cage is to feed. Lately, I only take my snakes out to feed, so they associate coming out of the cage with feeding and they go into feeding response the minute the door opens, so feeding in the cage would probably result in less bites for me. If you think they will bite while transferring from the feeding box to the viv, wear some smooth leather gloves. My Okeetees stay in feeding mode for quite a while and will grab onto whatever comes into the box so gloves work well. They also reduce the heat signature and although corns don't really use heat to hunt, they do recognize a heat signature and if they are still feeding, they'll strike at it. Unless you have paper as a substrate though, it's best to feed off the substrate.

yes had the same experience with one of my bps, I had fed it which I do in her viv and my partner went and put his hand in and she bit him. Normally she is fine and she is always fed in her viv. One of my other corns always hides and is a nightmare to get out unless he is roaming about so at times he is fed in his viv but on paper and is watched whilst feeding.

I feed mine in the viv, but NOT on the substrate.

My snakes both have a card-board box hide, ( They're still small enough for this cheap solution, thank god ) and when I feed them, I just flip it over and press it against the side of the glass, and lower them in. It protects them from ingesting substrate, but still gives them that familiar " I'm comfy in my house having a snack " feeling, at least I'd like to think so.
