Awesome Since 1984
It's wonderful how I now see the reptile exhibits at the zoo from a whole new perspective.
I've been going to the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans every year or two for the last 18 years. This is the first year I've actually been able to feel like a part of the animals. Going through the reptile area and reading all the information on snakes was great. There's just something special about being able to read about a snake, then immediately look at it right in front of you.
Every now and then there'll be a tent set up with some zoo employees holding one animal or another, awaiting people to pass by so that they can tell you a little about what they're holding. I was pleasantly surprised that when I turned a corner, I ran right into one of these tents. There was a man and a lady each holding something, and they asked me to guess what they were.
Without missing a beat, I told the guy he had a corn snake and the lady had a bearded dragon. I know, this is preschool stuff for the members of this board. But the employees were surprised to run into someone who recognized these reptiles. (Of course everyone recognizes a snake, but most people can't identify what kind they are).
They had a a whole area filled with rattlesnakes. I also got to see a King Cobra eat a bird (though the plaque the have states that King Cobras solely eat other snakes...heh).
Here's some misc pictures I took. They're poor quality, but I was trying to get through the zoo before they closed, and the lighting conditions weren't the best in the reptile room.
