Today is just the kind of day these snakes like so I decided to go out and look for some, with much success. I saw a TON of them, and was able to catch three different ones and take pics. These guys have got the STINKIEST musk, though...

WOW. . . . .those things put the Garder Snakes were I live to shame !!

Nice find. Thanx for posting those pics

Caught the three, saw about eight others too. They are fast. If they see me first there is no chance to catch them but I was able to sneak up on a few.

awe..I love them..they are so cute, Garters are probably one of my fave snakes to find here in Maine...no luck finding any lately..too cold I think...
great pics..Thanks for sharing with us:cheers:

Cool pics, love the colors wish they were that color here! Also why do they like to come out this time of year? looking for a brumation den?

PS) my seven year old could catch'em he can catch anything!

I am sure there are plenty of garter snakes in FL, I just havent found any! Nice find for sure, what a pretty snake!

We find garters here in michigan all the time. But ours aren't NEAR as beautiful as those you have out there!
Thanks for sharing them with us.

Great pics. Love all the different varieties garter snakes come in. It's nice that you were able to show us yet another variety

ForkedTung - They should go into hiding and brumate soon. It was just an extremely mild day with perfect temps. I never see them when it's really hot out
LBoz- I am not superfast! Just sneaky. I snuck up on them and grabbed them.

Thanks 2 everyone for all the comments!

I live in Oregon and I NEVER see any of them that are that pretty! Great shots! And yeah, I HATE garter snake musk! And they squirrel around all over your hand and arm when you pick them up so they can rub it in good. I scrub and wash and scrub again, and it still takes at least 8 hours for the smell to fully fade.
