Snakes

20 gallon would last it a lifetime. You could get a 30 gallon if you want to for more room. I don't think it would make a difference.

tank size

there are different sizes to a 20 gallon though. You need at least a 20 gallon LONG which is like 30 inches long. I have some 20 gallons that are the same size as a 10 but they are taller. those would not work for a corn.

Actually Kenster, 20 highs aren't the same foot print as a 10. They are the same foot print as a 15 and a 30 high. 12 inches by 24 inches. :D Unless of course you are talking about a 20 super show. That and a 15 show are great tanks to display angelfish and discus, but surely I digress.

You are right in the theory though. A long tank, 20 gallons or larger is necessary for an adult corn. If an adult corn is 60 inches long, then half of that of course is 30 (the length of a 20 long). The snake could in theory stretch out around the perimeter of the tank without its head touching its tail.

<------------------------------------------> 30 inches
^.........................................................^
...........................................................
12 inches.......................................12 inches
...........................................................
...........................................................
<------------------------------------------> 30 inches

So overall the snake has a max of 84 inches to stretch out. That's not really a whole lot of room considering it doesn't have another half of its body length in free room.

This went all off the deep end. Hope it made the least bit of sense. Time to go to bed!

i think that if everybody give these measurements (Length x Wide x Height) everybody knows what it means... it is verry confusing to give a size by gallons!
just my 2 cents (whatever that means....???:confused: )

I agree that the if the dimensions where given it would be a lot easier.

In the UK the measurements are in L x W x H. Also a UK gallon is different to a US gallon.

A US galllon is 3.68 litres (or somewhere close) where as a UK (imperial) gallon is actually 4.544 litres.

Now you can see the confusion that this causes.

A 20 gallon will actaully hold about 72 litres which is also about 16 UK gallons.

I have a 24" x 12" x 12" which holds 57 litres or 12.5 uk gallons or 15.5 US gallons.

Hope I have not confused anyone.

Regards.

Dean.

sorry

I forgot that there was the difference in the size of gallons. Ok the tank is 30x12x12 which is the smallest tank to house an adult in. But I am sure you got that by now...

i feel as if i completely overdid my snakes home...i especially bought a 40 gallon tank, 6 climbing sticks, a glass waterdish, and a large plastic one full of cool water that she bathes in....oh well! my snake will lead a very LONG and COMFORTABLE life, full of spas and massages;) ....
