Scenting

Okay, maybe this is a dumb question, but I've sifted through some scenting posts, and I'm not sure *exactly* how it's done. If I wanted to scent with an anole, would I just buy an Anole, and keep it alive, and just rub the pinky on it??? Or do I have to kill the poor thing and rub its guts on the pinky?

I ask because I've read posts about keeping frogs and toads in the freezer for scenting for other snakes. Obviously, they're dead, and you can smear guts on the pink. Didn't know if I had to kill the lizard to scent. We'll do what we have to to save the non-feeder babies, just need to know how far I have to go.

You could keep it alive if you really wanted to and do it like that. One rather effective way (I've heard) is to get some of their shed skin and stick it to the f/t pink. If you actually do wind up freezing it, you can slice off small portions of skin and stick it to the pink, too. Now mind you, I haven't had any experience in this area, this is only what I've heard has worked for other breeders. I'm sure someone will be along to answer this question more thoroughly.

Robbie, I have heard that too.

I've also used you can dip the pinks in tuna juice, and that's supposed to help. I've heard all kinds of things..

Egg yolk, cricket guts, mealie guts, animal blood, crab juice..

The list goes on.
Use your best judgement and always get someone's opinion on a particular feeding method, be it positive or negative. Snakes have different tastes, just like people.
