Is cruel to not provide a particular heat spot?

I'm trying to design a small rack that could house a couple snakes from hatchling size to adults. I'd like to use flex watt- but I heard from an electrician that it can be dangerous and start fires. I know heat is important for babies, as well as other species of snakes....but do adults need it if the room is kept warm enough?

I just aquired my first corn snake and she is doing great with no heat source in her aquarium. The room is kept at a constant 85, though.

I would think that if it is for safety reasons, the adults would be just fine but we should wait for one of the experts ;)

I've kept corns at room temp (75-80) for years. It can for sure be done.

By the way: Flexwatt is totally safe, but you want to make sure to use a thermostat. Most of my corns these days are kept in a rack with flexwatt backheat. My probe in the rack is about an inch from the tape and the tstat is set to 83.

I know my neighbor only uses heat for her pythons, but all corns are kept without UTH's or heat tape. However, the actual room her corns are kept in has its own thermostat controls in which it is on a timer to flucuate throughout the day simulating natural temp flucuations outdoors. Her room never goes below 70 or above 86 and they do fine, but this set-up was not cheap. If you can do something similar so they aren't always kept under the same temp conditions it probably is fine, but if not too much heat can cause stress and too little can cause digesting issues and increases your chance of regurges.
