hey everyone!! i just bought 2 new baby corn snakes (ghost and a albino creamsicle) LOVE EM!!. I'm new to the hobby and wanted to know if i'm suppose to place the thermostat probe on top of my aspen bedding or underneath. Asking because when I feel the aspen shaving it feels rather cold.. slightly warm if its underneath. I do have a thermometer and it reads out 85-87. When I do put the thermostat probe on top of the bedding, I can feel the warmness, with the thermometer on top aswell. ( if that's a word :-D )... sorry for wriiting so much LOL!!
Just want my little guys to do well.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing but when I touch the aspen.. I feel no heat at all. Is this normal? just a little worried because the ghost ate this morning ( first meal WOOT !!)

The aspen does insulate the heat a bit. Make sure the bedding isn't too thick if you're worried, but it is normal. The probes should be under the bedding, right on top of the heater. You need to control the heat at the closest point your snakes can get to the heat source. If it's 85* on top of the bedding, it might be 90* or higher underneath--maybe even hot enough to burn your snake if it decides to burrow down and lay right on top of the glass.

 I was gonna say the same, that the probe should be placed as close to the heat source as the snake can get...Good Advice :)

Human core body temperature is in the 90s - over the safe maximum for Corns. The "hot spot" should feel maybe lukewarm to you, but it should never feel "hot". Trust your thermometer on this one.
