First off, that age old battle of dog versus cat....

We took a few pics of my 2 year old boys-- Riley the Golden Retriever and Sterling the silver tabby-- battling each other for supremacy.

Snakes

Rio, '05 Jungle cornsnake, including one of him with my dog that just proves why Golden Retrievers rock... my dog could not possibly care less about any of the other animals in the house. He's been judged "mostly harmless" by all.

Freyja

Freyja is an '08 female leucistic Texas ratsnake from Don S. at South Mountain Reptiles. She used to be quite a maniac-- hissing, biting and musking like mad every time you touched her. I started handling her with gloves more frequently, and now we can handle her bare handed with nary a musk.

Izzy

Izzy is an '07 California kingsnake with a highly aberrant pattern. She is from Susquehanah Ectotherms. She also used to have a 'tude problem, but is either calming down with age or REALLY likes Tara. Here is Izzy and my loverly girlfriend, Tara!

Miscellaneous

Here's a few miscellaneous photos.

Selena is an '08 female Hog Isle Boa with a NASTY temper. I have a video I will upload shortly of her incredibly POed last night, hissing like an alligator. It's quite intimidating. Selena is from Outback Reptiles.

Seth is an '08 male ball python, no hets, from Morph Makers. And the leos are both '07 females. One is a lavender named Luna, the other a normal named Athena.

Very, nice, Lauren! I'm really glad that you showed pics of your LTR. It gives me hope for mine.

BTW, I've named one of my corns Freya... She's the oldest corn I've got... and spends most of her time in my daughter's 2nd grade elementary class. LOL. I simply love the name "Freya".

Congrats on having such a wonderful collection of animals!

Beautiful animals

Thanks David. :)

We were starting to worry about her. She can't really break skin at this point, but with the 'tude she had a few weeks ago, as a 4-5' adult... well that'd be a horse of a different color. I am quite glad she is settling down. ;)

From what I can tell you cages are very very nice and well put together. I am buying a bunc of plants to put in my cages tomarrow and suggestions on how to improve my housing

The cages you can see behind the photo of Izzy are cages #2 and #3... I put more effort into those because at the time I only had three snakes, and therefore more money to spend on "pretty" things.

I have seen my California kingsnake use the fake plants once. My children's python seems to be more arboreal than the king and uses his to hunt and "stalk" my hand and the mice I feed him-- he is usually in the plant once I start feeding, and will constrict his mouse and eat it in the plant.

My first snake, Hokie, is a corn, and he also has fake plants, but I've not seen him use them since his first year. He is two now.

All of my snakes use their hides-- the ones they seem the most fond of are the "water bowls." Let me try and get some pics of those for you.

Thanks sooo much mabye I will see you at an expo some day

Here are a few pics from just now.

One thing that really sharpens up a vivarium or aquarium is a black background. Mine is cheap black construction or bulletin board paper that I "borrow" from school. ;) You can get it at an AC Moore or craft store, or even Walmart, for a few bucks. Makes everything look better really.

Notice that most of my hides (with the exception of Hokie and Chaos' vivs, because I only had three snakes at the time) are home-made. I am always looking for more things to use as hides.

And a few more

One more new one of the baby/juvenile vivs.

The green lidded viv is the one my baby Nelson's milk escaped from last week-- an escape that ultimately killed her. Again, a viv is only as secure as you make it. I was careless and did not double check that I had secured hers after giving her water, and she died because of it. :(

The rest are pics from the fall. I'll link the videos too.

Ok thanks Lauren. It looks like there are two hides in each cage I have done that. I have large water. Now I did notice pots what kind should I get for the snakes. What if they are treated. How will I know

I used to use clay pots in my African mbuna fish tank back when I was poor(er than I am now). Once I got money for rocks and wood in that tank, I had a plethora of pots left over. I broke some of them and glued them back together into various shapes. Others I put in without breaking. Some snakes use them, some do not. The ones that make small dark caves (typically have part of a side broken off) are the most popular. My yearlings can actually go through the holes in the bottom of a small flowerpot, so they use that as their hide. Freyja the leucy rat has one I broke and glued back together so there's a finger width gap in it. I sit it upside down on her aspen and it's her favorite hide.

These are just normal flower pots-- I soaked them in water before putting them in my tank back in '05 and then scrubbed and dried them after removing them from my tank last spring. No other cleaning was done to them.

If you have a Petsmart or Petco in your area, look for the cheap plastic dog and cat bowls that are "no spill, no tip," and have a hollow space under them. My snakes ADORE these water bowls and I am a little irritated that Petsmart at least is no longer carrying the giant sized ones like Rio currently has... that means once Hokie grows a bit more, I will have to replace his with a traditional bowl and he will lose his favorite hide. :(

I also use the bottoms of milk cartons, and I use margarine tubs for humid hides. Most of my snakes are big fans of humid hides as well. I have my grandma and parents saving butter tubs for me for that reason. ;)
