Kiwi the Diamond Dove

That's "lin-NAY-ah"
Well, I have a new pet. It was a sad circumstance as he needed a home because his owner, a fellow Baha'i acquaintance, was dying of a rare liver disease and so a message was sent out. I said I would take him if no one else came forward. She was thrilled I took him, so I was glad to make her happy. So he is here now, and sadly, she has since passed away.

I have had parakeets, cockatiels and a dwarf Maccaw, but not a clue about these critters. I have him in my computer room along with my GTP and RTB, so it's plenty warm in here. He is a little larger than your average budgie.

I have had him just a little over a week now. I discovered he is a boy because he started doing the "bow coo" thing--bowing, fanning the tail and cooing at the mirror. Then a few days ago, I started opening the door. The next thing I know, he's trying to land on me. It has been a startlingly brief period of time, but he's apparently bonded to me because he tried mating with my hand--! Good grief. He even walks on my hands while I'm typing. What a pest! Seriously, he is very sweet and if anyone has had any experience with them, I'd be interested in hearing stories.

Kiwi did have a mate that died about a week before his owner, but I never saw that bird. I'm just thrilled he's not only adapted to his new home, but has taken a shine to me!

Very cute! I had a friend that had two of them, but they were unhandleable and would not come out of the cage. They made the cutest little noises!

Heh, well, I thought that's how he would be, too. Now I wish he would stop trying to mate with my hand--!

He's a beautiful dove! I'm sorry he had to come to you in such sad circumstances though. Love the orange around his eye!
