Very cool :) I like that color.. I took the pics of that plant as the sun was going down, it was getting dark. With no flash, I was surprised at how vibrant they cam out..

Beautiful flowers! Desert flowers are just amazing in my opinion.

And PS - I love the Valley of Fire. I have been there a few times - gorgeous landscape and great hiking!

Hi,

Those Echinopsis are stunning, My cacti collection specialises in them, i think i have ~75 different named cultivars and several Trichocereus cultivars including 'Flying Saucer). There is such a huge range of colours in echinopsis, the flowers can range from Purple through to red, orange, yellow, cream, white and green with shades inbetween and mixtures of colours with stripes down the centres of the petals and shading from the base of the petals out into the tips of the petals. Mine are just being woken up from the winter cool of just above freezing but below 8 degrees Celsius as the encourages and improves flowering.

I will post some pics in the summer when they flower mainly, as bench of them in one of my glass houses they make a stunning display.

Very nice :) Its nice to see another cacti collector in here :) I love the many echinopsis flowers as well.. I only have a few varieties though. I hope they bloom well for me as it is their first spring in my yard since I bought them flowering last spring. I wish I had the other echinopsis pics on this laptop.. I cant wait to see pics of yours in bloom :)

Are they desert tortoises? I have a baby one that I am probably going to find a new home for..

Yes. The eggs were taken for a research project at University of Florida. When the project was over, the three year olds were adopted out rather than being euthed. (The mothers were autopsied...) They could not be transported out of state.

Mine live outside on a completely "natural" diet of whatever grass they can graze, and leaves they can reach on the mulberry tree, and an occasional hibiscus flower. They have bones and cuttlebone for calcium. They brumate outside, but get supplemental heat if the temp goes below 40F. So far, so good. They've been outside for almost two years. Two winters!

Here is a picture of some of my Echinopsis on a Shelf in one of my glass houses:

These are some of the flowers from last year, i chose a range of colours to show you but there are far more. I should have far more flowers this year.

I also have a sizeable collection of Agaves (something i was amused to learn was that Bob Clark also has an agave collection!!), i think i have somewhere in the region of 50 different species!! I have seed purchased from places in Europe and Australia! I think i have around 750 individual agave plants at the moment but most of those are very small and in large batches in seed trays from last year. I sell various succulents to plant centres all over Britain, there is a plant centre in Ireland which collects plants from me most years when they come over to England to collect from other nurseries!

I have around 25 different species/cultivars of lithops as well, singles of some and groups of upto ~20 of others.

I also have a range of other cacti and succulents and alpines.

I also have a couple hundred Pleonies of various types which are covered in flower bud at the moment, i will post pics of them in a couple weeks when they are open.

Very cool..:) I love your collection :) My biggest collection in number of species, would have to be my agaves. I love those things, they are all so different. Although I do have hundreds of Astrophytum seedlings growing right now.. And a few native plant seedlings, along with a few Burseraceae types..

wow..very nice..
I love flowers and your pics are stunning..(as much as I hate using that word)
But its true..
I need to build myself a green house this year............
