Viper Bite In Texas

There was a small article in the local paper here about how the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue had to send antivenon to San Antonio, but they didn't say what kind of snake did the biting, so I had to find out!

So I was looking for more information on Dr. Turner and found this, from the City of Lake Forest! http://www.cityoflakeforest.com/cs/rec/cs_rec2d2.htm

“Thai” the King Cobra

“Thai” is one of our featured animals in our Grass Is Rattling exhibit and is certainly the Curator’s all time favorite animal. This is a magical animal and the King Cobra is the world’s longest venomous snake and the subject of worship amongst many cultures. Thai came to us from Dr. Earl Turner of Texas who hand raised this wonderful animal. King Cobras are primarily snake eaters and Dr. Turner weaned Thai onto rodents by scenting rodents with frozen snakes. Soon, Thai learned to accept rodents w/out any special preparation and now he LOVES rats….straight up. Three years ago, Rob drove down to Texas to pick up this prized King Cobra that many zoos had coveted for their exhibits. Dr. Turner knew that he would be given special care and attention at a smaller facility like our’s. Rob bonded with Thai and the two are now best “buddies”. Soon, Thai will be getting a brand new exhibit that will give him room to stretch out, get lots of exercise and show him in a spectacular exhibit.

"Dr. Turner, PhD., is a licensed herpetologist."

There is a license for that now? LOL. One of these days, the media will actually get something right and I'll die of shock!
