Watch your feet! Snake Loose!!

Mr. Enigma!
The misses and I went to PetCo to pick up a new UVB bulb, for the lizard. While we were there, as we always do, we checked to see if there was any corns in the tank. We called the little man over and he opened the tank for us. To our amazement, we were staring at something the we were not expecting. We saw motleys and zigzags.

So, I started popping them in order to see the sex. They had two little amel ziggys and a motley ghost. The two ziggy's were both girls and the ghost was a boy. Now, I don't usually buy from pet stores, unless I find something amazing. One of the little girls had the most perfect zig zag pattern I have ever seen! It went from her head to her tail tip, perfectly! So I couldn't pass her up for only $29.99 with my P.A.L.S. card. Could You?

So they boxed her, I had them put the box in a bag, so we don't get a draft and immediately, made the bee line home! I got in the house, we put the bag on the bed. I retrieved a critter keeper, a dish, a new thermometer, a uth with the rheostat, some carefresh, a TP tube and some news paper, and made my way back to the bedroom. Probably gone a minute (I keep all that stuff at the ready, just in case something comes up).

My wife opened up the bag, took out the box and opened and guess what???? NO FREAKIN SNAKE!:awcrap:

So now, all the crap I give people about panicking, when they loose a snake, I threw it out the window! Here I am, throwing stuff around the room, looking for this itty bitty little thing! Christine has run out to the car and is thrashing through that thing! That has been our day, since just after 9am and it's now almost 7pm. The house, the car and the everything else around us is in complete disarray!

I have no idea where this snake got out, when it got out or whatever! I have set out nine thousand traps, encompassing all the rooms in the house and the car. I put traps with heating pads in the car, so when it starts to get cold, it will hopefully seek out the warmth. Christine wants me to check these once an hour, all night long! It is supposed to get cold tonight. :fullauto:

Right now, she is sleeping and so distraught over this little snake that we owned for about 10 minutes.:crying: What am I saying! I am distraught over losing this little snake!:crying:

Sorry, I really really really needed to rant/vent!!

Wayne

Could it have gotten out in the store? That sucks man I hope you two find her :(

I called them and I can guarantee that they probably only halfheartedly looked for the little girl. The girl on the phone seemed more irritated that I called to ask. She probably thought I was trying to get another snake from them for nothing, which I am not!

I know how pissed you are but hopefull she did make it in and will show up soon!! I am sending positive vivs your way :)

This is just killing me, not knowing when or how this little girl got lost and not knowing where she is! I just called petco again, to see if they "maybe" came up with something? Well, they didn't! I'm kicking myself, because I usually never buy from a pet store. Those stupid little boxes, they put their pet's in, are useless. Uggh!!!

Live and learn I guess!

Ugh, I really hope she turns up... Luckily today was a milder day than usual. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

I just spent more time than I should have going through wal-mart examining the tupperware and pushing on the sides of the lids to see how snake-proof they were. I am paranoid that my little guy will get loose and I don't even have him yet!

Wayne Wayne Wayne...tsk tsk tsk. J/k man...
I'm sorry about this, and I sure do hope that she turns up soon!
I started reading about this amazing zigzag and then saw that she was on the loose!
Hopefully she shows up soon so we can see this pretty girl!

Damn you got to check the car too...That sucks big!!!

I know Lenny! We are so afraid to drive it! There is too many, what ifs!?!? It is such a little baby one, that I dunno! I got this overwhelming feeling of hopelessness!

I keep looking for him and taking a break for a few minutes, then it dawns on me to look in this place! It's a never ending, vicious cycle!

Thank you all for your thoughts, during this time of agonizing mysery. I realize that this little snake was only with us for ten minutes, but I am seriously depressed right now. I was so excited to get it home, snap a couple of pics and put her in quarantine/adjustment. Then to have all that excitement come to a crashing halt. I am so tired and drained. I have to shake this overwhelming feeling of hopelessness!

Thank you all again,

Wayne

Bummer!

So sorry to hear about the quick escape!

Do you mean those little boxes they put hamsters in when they sell them? I HOPE not! Who would put a snake in something like that?

Yep those are the boxes they come in.

I hope you find your little girl soon. Your in my thoughts. It's the worst feeling when you lose one of your babies.

You need to calm down and think. After that hatchling went into the box, where did the box go? On the counter? Were you standing there paying? Someone wouldve seen a snake crawl out of a box if it had been the counter with people standing there.

Where was the box in the car? On someones lap, or on the floor? Get a flashlight and look under your seats. You can lose change under there, it'd be very easy to lose a tiny hatchling.

Snakes are stressed in transit, I cant imagine it'd go that far. Isnt a hatchling more likely to dart and just curl up somewhere close and dark.

Most people who lose hatclings find them feet from their enclosures. Keep looking...its a scared baby curled up somewhere.

Good luck!

An idiot? LOL I mean really, how much would deli cups cost Petco?

They may as well make people carry the hatchling home.

Ahh!! Wayne!
I am so sorry to hear this! That is just horrible!
I sure do hope that your little girl shows up soon.
Those boxes that they put them in are ridiculous! You'd think that they would at least care enough to spend some pocket change on some deli cups...
Just like Justine said..
It's not like they would put a huge dent in PetCo's pocket!

Once again..I'm so sorry! Keeping you guys and your little snake in my thoughts! Keep us updated!

Insted of ringing petco, go into the store, check the snakes they have again... you never know they might have just got another female with EXACTLY the same markings on it lol. Worth a try tho, if they did find it they would want to sell it again rather than ring you and give it to you.

Yes Kathy, it was the little boxes that they put the hamsters in. That is why we also put that box, in a plastic bag and my wife tied the top. We are "usually" smarter they are, but I guess not this time!

Ya know how many times I have made this statement to people who make the "My snake got away" threads! This is the first snake I have lost and I didn't know the rush of emotions that run through you. RELAX!! Hardly?? I did my best to keep a clear head.

I have run through the trip nine hundred and one times (and counting). The guy boxed the snake, we put the box in a bag and tied it. It was placed on the counter and my wife picked it up. It rode on her lap on the ride home and the only other place that it rested was on the bed.

So I dun know! Thank you for the advice though!

LOL! I know, that is what I was thinking when they broke out the box. I figured I would be the smart one and put it in the bag, to be safe and cut out any drafts. It's still cold up here!

One of the manager's of that store is a real good friend of ours. I haven't spoken to her about it yet, but I plan too. I really don't "think" the store would be that underhanded, but then again, they are just people.

Thank you all for the responses!
