Are mice that don't like humans more likely to cannibalize their young?

I was just wondering, because I'm in the process of starting a colony, and two of my ladies really don't like humans and I'm afraid they will get stressed out and eat their babies. Also, I'd like to let them keep 1 or 2 babies, but I'm afraid that plucking their sibs out would stress out the mom also, causing her to eat the remaining ones. Any info would be much obliged.

Stress is a problem for mice. I have found that uptight mommas have uptight babies. I try to not save babies from colonies that are uptight. You have got to be able to take babies when you need them. If the moms can’t handle that they are not going to be good breeders for you. I’d say try it and see what happens. If they eat the babes feed momma to a snake.

One other thing, if you don't mind me interjecting. If you take out the litter of babies and leave only one or two babies, the babys "may" not survive. With the drastic reduction of milk, being suckled from mama, she may dry up, causing the babies to starve to death.

Just a thought,

Wayne

I don't take away many pinkies, but when I do, I don't remove more than half the litter. I haven't had any problems doing that.
