quarantine sticky?

katieam

S for Sam!
is there a sticky or anything that deals with quarantine for snakes? :poke:

ive done the advanced searcbut i cant seem to get a complete answer. if anyone is knowledgeable enough to make one, i know i would sure appreciate it. i think it would help a lot of others who are getting a second (or third, or fourth, or...) corn.

thanks guys!

Basically set the snake up with the bare minimum i.e water bowl, a hide or two, and substrate for now to monitor fecals and keep them in a separate room away from your collection. Make sure you care for your established stock first and rinse out all water bowls separatly to avoid cross contamination. After caring for your healthy animals shower, or at least change clothes and wash hands with an antibacteril soap. Clean all the new snakes stuff again in a separate area from where you clean the other bowls
and rewash your hands well. I abstain from holding any of my established animals for 90 days following the above procedures to avoid any possibility of carrying over bacterias, parasites, or worms.

you dont hold your origional snakes for 90 days? even though you shower and change? or did i misunderstand that?

You can handle your new snake while it's in quarantine- but handle your established snakes FIRST/BEFORE handling any quarantine snakes. Make sure also, that you use a completely separate set of everything, i.e. feeding tongs, feeding containers, etc.

ok thanks guys. im just nervous about bringing a new snake into the house. i would be heartbroken if Sam caught something and died from me not being cautious enough.

ok thanks. i have the new snakes tank set up already. hes it the room next to my room (where Sam is) but im keeping the door closed on the new snakes room. i have the tank set up with two coconut hides, paper towl as substrate. i have seperate feeding tongs and containers. and in putting a climbing branch in there and a plant for some cover. i think ive got everything, now i just have to get my new snake! :D
