Its funny how $1.65 for a pinky seems cheap until you start buying 10 at a time every week. So, we decided to get a colony started and breed our own snake food. We thought starting small, 1 male maybe 2 females in a critter keeper would be okay until we move than snakes into the new viv and free up a 10 gal. We get to the pet store and find an already pregnant female. Bonus! The lady at the pet store said the little prego should pop in about 10 days, so we just got her and figured we'd wait until she was done to start a colony, besides the new viv should be ready by then.... Two days later, PINKIES! :p As the Staples guy says "That was easy." Only four total, but hey, who's complaining? 1 one gram and 3 two gram pinkies. I guess she gets to rest and gets some peace until the 10 gal is ready to move a colony into.

Her only having four makes me wonder about her age and how many litters we are going to get out of her, but she already paid for herself!

when we get the colony started, Im sure I'll have lots of questions.
Til then,
Jimmy

She could have been a first time mom but if she looked like a golf ball with a head I would say there where more then four. New moms either don't know what to do and the pups die and mom eats them or she may not know whats going on at all and eat them as they come till her hormones kick in... Many mice have between 8-15 pups if more.. Remember keep them well fed "feed once a day" and everything should go well.. a higher protein like puppy kibble, or rolled oats for pregnant and nursing moms.
