Bringing my snake to the vet for the first time

So, I'm planning on bringing my snake (Arshess Neii) to the herp vet for the first time. However, I'll be feeding her 2 days before her appointment. I've heard that you're not supposed to touch your snake 24-48 hours after eating. So, I was wondering if it's ok to bring her to her appointment or just reschedule. I think I'm being a tad bit paranoid, but I don't want her to regurg or anything while she's at the vet or on her way there.

Also, I was wondering how to provide a warm spot in her travel tank. I was thinking of using those heat pads that people use to treat cramps and muscle aches, but I'm not quite sure how to activate it with a snake. Another thing about the pads is that I'm not sure if it's going to be too hot for Arshess while I take her to the vet, since I can't regulate the temp from the pad.

Any suggestions for me guys? Any and all advice is much appreciated.

if it were me .... I would either try to feed a day earlier OR skip the feeding until after the vet visit ... how big is the snake in question? That info might help you get a more accurate answer.

I would say it's best to either feed a day early or skip feeding for this week; I like to wait 3 days after feeding before doing anything really stressful.
I don't think you have to worry about providing a warm spot, especially if the snake has not been fed recently. The snake's not going to be out of its home for more than a few hours, right? They can go for a day or two without a heat pad as long as temps stay at about 70-80 F. If you're pretty comfortable at the temp your snake is probably ok.

I'd just skip feeding until a few days after the vet, I know FinFang can throw up days after he eats. Waiting is probably better than risking a regurge, since waiting won't cause any problems.

Well, Arshess is around 2.5ft long, and I was planning on keeping her on a 7 day feeding schedule.

So it's fine if she goes a few days over a week without feeding? I'm just worried cause I don't want her to starve >.<;;; I just got her and don't want anything to happen to her. And I was kinda hoping the vet would tell me more about Arshess that I don't already know, so I could provide her with better care.

Yep yep, it takes young snakes weeks (at least) to starve, a 2.5 ft snake would take months!
I feed my adults every 10 days to 2 weeks, unless they are females preparing for or recovering from breeding.

You can probably alleviate any problem, by posting a picture or two and asking some questions here at CS.com. There are many members who are more than adequate to answer some of your questions, and many of the members, can probably tell you more than the vet could. You save some money, time, and a trip and find out the same info - a win win for you.

You asked about transporting... I've moved a LOT of heat sensitive animals, most the only real issue is from house-to-car and car-to-destination. Generally, I just warm the car up and have a thermometer on the animals carrier. I don't think you need to worry about heat pads or anything like that if the trip isn't ridiculously long.

If it's really cold outside... I wrap the carrier in blankets or winter coats, park my car on the curb, run in... then move it. Sure, illegal- but I'll risk a parking ticket over an uncomfortable pet.

Thanks for the advice guys. =) I really appreciate all your help. I guess I'll just hold off Arshess' feeding till after her visit. Hopefully I can post pics of Arshess soon (when she wakes up), so that I can get more feedback from you guys.

Oh, and thanks JoshuaNeff for answering my issues on transporting Arshess. I'll be sure to try out your techniques when I bring her to the vet.

You could use a coolbox :)
Don't know the correct name in english, but you know, those boxes you put icepacks in and keep your drinks cool on a day trip. In this case no icepacks of course :D
If I have to transport my reptiles on a cold day, I put a sodabottle with warm (not hot) water in the cooler, and place the snakebox (small transport box, just fits in my cooler:) ) next to it. That way I can carry it to the car without getting too cold, I keep it closed while the car is warming up. People tell me there is enough air in there for a long time, but when the car is warmed up, I always open the lid, to be sure :)
On arrival at the vet same thing. Park the car, close the lid, and easy walk without cooling the corn.
The water in the bottle will stay warm for a long time. Anyway, you can always ask your vet for some warm tapwater when you leave :D

Ohhh...I really like the warm bottle idea. =) But I don't have a cooler, so I think I'll just combine the warm water bottle with the towel surrounding the box.

Thanks for the excellent idea Kali. =)
