Alabama Herpin

Buzzard

two corny
So Saturday was an AWESOME day to herp in Alabama. My wife, 2 friends, and I started out at the University's Park. We found this little ring-neck snake under a board not 10 mins. after starting.

After the ringneck we checked out the pond. I missed catching a brown water snake and missed photographing about 4 or 5 cottonmouths (they got camera shy and went back into the water). Then we noticed on the grass hill a brown lump. I rushed over to get this little turtle. SHe hissed and wizzed all over the place.

Shortly after that a friend found this little garter snake, who musked us all and pooed, we had to take pictures holding his head (we all got plenty of bites from this guy)

We ended the day and headed for home but not before posing in a tree, over the water, And yes I had boots on while herping but I had to change them cause my feet were getting to hot and they got wet chasing the brown water snake.

Great shots! I love the ring-necks, I think they're adorable! Thanks for sharing. :)

Nice pics! I've NEVER found a ringneck, and I turn over everything. I've never found _anything_ in Florida by flipping. Minnesota, you're guaranteed to find something! My new herping goal is to catch a water snake. Love that boxie, Eastern?

Yes she was a little eastern. She was so cute, I have several other pics but I am thinking of putting them in the university's photo contest, so they stay unpublished for now.

I LOVE the ringneck! They're soooo cute! That garter snake doesn't look that happy with you. I can hear the four letter words its firing in your direction in snake talk! And box turtles are always cool.

I've been thinking of having a "snake walk" in my area since our horse farm is out in the middle of nowhere with plenty of woods and local streams. Once the weather gets warmer! We've been having a very cold, wet spring here in Pa., Irish weather almost!

I miss herping in Alabama, I am originally from Huntsville. I used to find a lot of interesting things where I lived.
