Suggestions - 4 legged reptile

I don't know why..but lately I have been itching to get a four legged reptile.
I just can't for the life of me figure out what I want!
Well, I take that back...I want a beardie...badly! But There is no way I could make room for a 40gal breeder! So I guess that will just have to wait until I move in a month or two.

Does anyone have any suggestions for some 4-legged reptiles that make good pets?

The only other ones I've had in the past is a leopard gecko and an iguana. I'd love to get another iguana (by far my favorite pet that I ever had), but like with the beardie, I just don't have the room to house a dinosaur right now!

Edit: Could a baby beardie live in a smaller enclosure for a couple months? Or do they require a 40gal right off the bat?

Beardies will do fine in a smaller enclosure, but the problem with that is getting a good temperature gradient and basking spot without cooking them. I strongly suggest against an iguana, in spite of you liking the one you had. Where is he now?
Leos are easy to care for, handle well, and can live great in compact spaces. Same with cresteds. There are lots to choose from that don't get 6 feet long!

Good point on the beardies. I had the iguana, Taz, for several years but one day he got pretty sick and stopped eating. He was scheduled to go to the vet but died the night before his appointment. He was an excellent pet. I don't doubt that I will have another one someday. Just not anytime soon...

I've thought about the cresteds...and I definitely wouldn't mind having a leo again...

I think you should get a nice subadult beardie or a blue tongue skink!

Leopards Geckos, Crested Geckos are all cool. There are a million other types of neat lizards. I love Anoles and probably will get a few more this summer for my screen cage. I also like alot of the smaller lizards like Fence lizards as well but you know, skinks are really cool. If you want to stay away from a 40 gallon breeder then stay away from Blue tongues.
I like alot of the smaller skinks though.. I am finding them to be really neat and love their personalities. Many are not handiable but I do like my fire skink. One of my favorite lizards and a new pick up.

Uromastyx are awesome, but they have similar requirements to a Bearded Dragon. Other than that I would suggest Leopard Geckos, they are one of my favorite pets!

They were MY foray into legged-reptile land!

I say crested or chahouas. Chahouas are like dogs no kidding and do well in a 20 gal tall cage, don't need heat, live insects, or lamps/bulbs. Their both cheap to feed, docile, long lived, hard to screw up, and entertaining!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If not a beardie, my vote is for a crestie. No stringent heat/light requirements, no stanky crickets, easily handled, variety of morphs.

I saw a harlequin crestie at the pet store I went to yesterday...it was beeeeutiful.

I would get a Northern Blue Tongue Skink. They eat vegetables, greens, and PINKIES you all ready have at home.
