Some people don't get it..Why a snake?

My sister doesn't get my fascination with snakes. I of course was terrified before but now really enjoy them.. So..when people say "Why snakes as a pet?" what do you say to them?

I think they are interesting in general so that kind of drew me to them. I think my initial fear was because I didn't know any better. Since I have a snake now I can say they're great pets.

I had to do a TON of reading and gathering information before making my final decision to own one.

So what do you say? They're cool, and fascinating to watch. They don't have hair you have to brush, they don't need a walk, etc.

I'm sure there are a lot of different reasons. It sounds dumb but you can all humor me by answering.. LOL. I just want to give my sister a few more reasons. She thinks I'm a little weird anyways.

You dont have to walk them, they only eat once a week, minimal poop to clean up, and they're just so darn cute!

They are quiet.
They eat and poop once a week.
They don't shed hair on the sofa or track mud across the floor.
They don't use the neighbor kids sandbox as a litterbox.
They don't claw or chew the recliner.
They come in amazing colors.
They live a long time.
They don't require regular vet visits.
Like fish, they are great to observe, but you can actually pick them up too!

Completely agree! Every reason why I have numerous ones. Lol.

AMAZING

They are AMAZING!!! I love his slow moving and can wrap his tail around my finger and hang. I said to my mom...." I think sankes are the easiest animal to take care of besides fish" she said Fish you have to feed every day. I said"OOOHH right, Snake-- if everyone loved them," *sigh*. Well I am glad everyone doesn't love them actually cause if they did we would be fighting over that creamsicle or .....

I have to explain that it's more of a hobby than like having a dog. Of course I love my snakes and all the ones I have are pets first, but people understand it more in those terms. Every once in a while someone will entertain me as i talk about the genetics behind breeding and how complicated it can get.

Snakes are just amazing, really! I love all 6 of mine!!

My first reason I give, is that they only eat and poop once a week. I tried to teach the dog to do that, but the SOB almost died! J/K of course!!
They come in a wide assortment of colors.
They don't need a lot of clingy attention.
They can be inexpensive to take care of.
They don't back talk, bark, meow or cry.
They don't poop on the floor.
and so on and so on and so on!

I think my fascination for reptiles in general is that there is no such thing as a "tame" reptile. They can accept the fact that you're holding them or invading their space, but they're not a domesticated animal. As for the more aggressive or defensive species, I like the fact that you never earn their respect, and you've always got to be on your game when you're around them or it's going to end in pain.
