Okay, so, just oblivious. But still.
China the Kenyan Sand Boa has been missing since Sunday. I stupidly left the top loose on her Faunarium after having to pull the entire thing off to dig her out so my persistent, hard-to-please four-year-old cousin could hold her on Saturday. Last time I saw her was as I fell asleep that night, as she was cruising the front of her viv, nice and hungry for a plump little pinky mouse. I discovered her missing on Sunday night... Right after sticking her mouse in the fridge for the next day, ironically.
So, by today, she'd been missing a whopping five days. Absolutely crazy stressful for me, since this was my first (and hopefully only) escape...
Tonight I was getting ready for bed. Doing bathroom such... And actually sitting on the toilet when Stump, the only dog I trusted downstairs with an 8-inch snake on the run, finally listened to my shouts and plopped himself down in the middle of the mini-hallway to the bathroom. Just sitting there. Watching me. Suddenly, I notice a weird discoloration along the base of the wall. Like, a weird splotchy thing.. And it hit me. China! Jumped up, pants still around my ankles (sorry if that's TMI, lol!)... Stump just stared at me, confused. Didn't even know what the hell I was freaking out about until I shoved him out of the way and grabbed the snake. For that matter, I'm not sure he knew what the deal was even then! China was sitting less than a foot away from him, about equal with his front foot, and he hadn't even noticed! Lol!
China was apparently hungry, too. She was headed straight for the bathroom, where the mice are kept.. Only, she had apparently stopped dead and decided to play "camouflage" when all the lights came on. Or, at least, when the dog sat down next to her.
I guess this proves Stump is "reliable" around snakes, but I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. After all, if Osiris gets big enough to eat him and then escapes, is he just going to sit there if she decides to make a meal out of him?
I think the little bum still has no clue he was sitting right next to a loose snake... He probably just thought I'd snapped. Lol!
Well, that's my little story. I felt like sharing, and I hope you guys will get a laugh out of it, too. =)
China is in absolutely perfect shape (which is great, since I kept expecting her to show up with either spider bites or burns) aside from an empty tummy. She just finished munching down on a pinky mouse... Hopefully she's learned her lesson!!!
