Another Road Cruise

tyflier

[Insert Witty Commentary]
Yup…another cruise on another road looking for more snakes. It was nice and warm, hovering around 70*F, with a quick breeze blowing at around 30mph, with gusts reaching 45, but it was a warm wind.

We left my house around 8:00pm, and headed to a new road for the season, in search of the first Rubber boas of the year, but…we got skunked there. Maybe if we had gone a little later, I don’t know…

Did find some cool flowers, though…

These flowers were interesting to shoot. Like I said…it was windy. Plus…it was dark. So we parked the truck so the headlights were backlighting the flowers. I set my camera to ISO 200, and used my onboard flash at 1/4 power as a fill. Shutter speed was 1/180 of a second. I think the shots came out fairly well, given the scenario…

We decided to hit another road that tends to be more reliable, and sure enough…just like Old Faithful…

This was an absolutely STUNNING young Panamint. He had about 4 or 5 buttons, and was about 24 inches long. He was fairly calm, as well, only buzzing me when I touched him with the hook. He was a good poser, too. And he had a FAT belly full of food…

Further down the road we saw this little guy…

This little Western Longnose was just a baby. We found a bunch of hatchlings in the same area last year, so it really wouldn’t surprise me if this guy was a re-find…or whatever you would call it…

That’s about it, though. We didn’t see anything else except a DOR gophersnake, and the moon was coming up from behind the mountains, so we called it a night and headed home.

Thanks for coming along

That second snake is AMAZING! I guess they change colours as they grow? I love how it looks, it would make a great tattoo.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings Chris....

if you scooped up that Panamint and sent it to me.:crazy01:

Wow!!! That panamint is gorgeous..!! And that is a nice longnose as well.. :)

You know, I took pics of that same flower or a similar species out here a few nights ago... Did its beautiful smell fill the air??

You have no idea...This is the second Panamint within the last 7-10days that has had me drooling in the road and just DYING to bring it home. I think I need to get a hot cage setup sooner than anticipated...

That’s about it, though.

Maybe its just me, but that would have been one hell of a trip if I went! That Panamint makes it all worth it. He is absolutely stunning! The Longnose isn't to shabby either. Did you collect it?

Oh, neat flowers too. Looks like a white version of our famous Mexican Poppies. :)

No, I didn't collect anything. I tried a longnose last year, and just had a really hard time getting him to adapt...so I let him go. I don't have any desire to try again right away.

This year, I already collected 1 Rosy Boa, and I'm on the lookout for a Ground Snake. Other than that...I have no collection plans for the year...unless I find something incredible or completely different...

I saw your gorgeous Rosy. She's a doll! Now you just need to find her a mate!

Eh-hem... I'm still waiting for my Rubber boas by the way!
