Anyone else with a neurotic cat?

My cat Athena is acting crazy...like.. in the middle of the night she runs around my room and does back flips on the door and wall. It is really weird. She was also chasing her tail and meowing at something.

Is my cat just crazy or should I take her to the vet? It's like she's possessed or something. It's really weird. I swear she really does backflips on the wall and runs around like a freak on cat nip. I don't even have any catnip in this house. LOL.

She also plays catch with her food. She'll put her paws up on the food dish and flip her food up in the air.

Anyone else have a crazy cat? I swear that mine is mental. My other cat Jewel just bites sometimes. Athenas "attack of the crazies" usually begins in the middle of the night..

Haha.. sounds like she has TONS of energy.

If my cat isn't a) sleeping or b) play-fighting with the dog, she's c) scaling the stairs rapidly, latching onto them and biting, or chasing her tail up and down them. Sometimes she even just races through the house randomly, chasing any bit of you-name-it on the floor.

I wouldn't worry too much as long as she's acting healthy. :D

I need get a bunch of cat trees.Man I hope I get my tax money soon!

Cat's typically go nuts with bursts of energy like that when they aren't being stimulated enough and are bored. Play with her more, and it should calm down. Toss her some toys, buy a laser pointer, tease her with those feather on a string tied to a stick toys - there's plenty you can do to keep entertained and not bored.

I don't have a neurotic cat (although I did have one who climbed onto the almost 7 ft dresser constantly to knock down and tear up toilet paper... as well as sitting on and even knocking down (once) snake cages and terrorizing mice), but my friend has a cat that acted like that when she was younger... Don't know if she still does it, but I did witness it once--about 10 PM, EVERY night, the silly cat would start racing around the house attacking EVERYTHING... Then hiding. Then pouncing on whoever got close to her hiding place. Then bounding around... Sort of like when a really hyper big-breed puppy gets the "zoomies" (which, I do have a dog that does that... but you're talking about neurotic cats, not neurotic dogs, lol). So, yeah. Cats going absolutely psycho-crazy is totally normal! =)

Hmmm..well Jewel never does it. Maybe my kitty is just special. ;)
I'm about to splurge on more toys for them. My mom put all their toys away so they're tucked away in my closet. My cat loves chasing tennis balls. My laser pointer is broken or lost. (Don't know where it went) I know they love those things.

I also have a fishy on a string toy that I play with her a lot.

LOL! My other cat Jewel would go to my cell phone and knock it on the floor. Than she would play hockey with it with her paws. If it rang or the alarm went off she would also knock it on the floor. She still does it. It's rather amusing..not all the time though. Jewel is the "knock stuff on the floor" cat. She'll do it to books, little things, and so on. One time she did it with her food bowl and broke it. Argh

Haha, yes. One of my favorites:

Elsy thinks the bathroom=play time. She sticks her paws under the door to "getcha"!

Good luck with your hyperkitty. :D

LOL. That is a cute photo. My cat used to stick her paws under the door and try to get me. She's about 10 months old. I love the little turkey butt.. haha. She's just loony tunes!

Your cat sounds like my PITA. She will all of a sudden start running around the house chasing imaginary whatevers..lol
Her tail I call her tagalong toy, She will sit in the chair and chase her tail for upwards to half hour or more at a time. Then she'll jump down and race to the next chair and start all over again. My other cat Cyrus has never been like that and he looks at his "sister" like she's nut.
Sounds like your cat is showing very normal behavior and I wouldn't worry about her at all.

My cat is getting up there in years and he still acts like a freak most of the time. He'll start chasing imaginary things all over the house, and will get going so fast that he slides into walls (aren't hardwood floors fun).

I got a bag of treats for him about a month ago, and now anytime anyone walks by the shelf where they're stored, he jumps up and starts howling for a treat. He's so addicted to the things that we actually managed to teach him how to sit, stay, stand, and dance using the treats as motivators. lol

Who says you can't teach an old cat new tricks? :D
