Baby Escape Artist... any way to lure him back?

Zulu3

bad luck charm
I got my new baby male and brought him to work with me today in what I thought was an escape proof tank. After my lunch break I came back to find him missing. I work in a good size veterinary clinic, and there are about a million places for a cornsnake to hide. I searched every crack and corner I could find for HOURS and I can't find the little guy. Does anyone have advice as to how to lure him out or anything? Anything.. I just want to find him...

Baby and escape artist are redundant terms! There might be no animal on the planet getting out of a small opening than a hatchling colubrid snake. Do you feel safe that he's secure in the room he escaped in? If so, tearing that area apart, painter's tape or bottle traps might work. Search the site for those terms, they come up at least once a month. If you suspect he could be anywhere in the building, he could always pop up -I recently had a Mex Mex king show up a year later, so don't give up hope! If the building is cool, look near refrigerator coils (underneath), and other warm spots. The track record isn't good on animals that have been out more than a day or two, but it does happen. I've had two now missing for an entire winter that resurfaced, and one was outside! I wish you the best.

You work in a "good size vet clinic"?
Did you have his tank in a busy area where there are customers?
If so, are you sure he got out and wasn't stolen?
I sure hope not. Either way would suck!
I hope you can recover your baby soon!

I had suggested to do a search, because I'm pretty certain there are pictures and step-by-step explanations.

In simple terms, you cut the neck end off of a 16 oz. drink bottle, put dirty mouse shavings inside, invert the cut piece to make an inverted cone, put it against a wall, and cross your fingers. Tape is MUCH more effective, IME.

I once had a corn get out of an opening no larger than the thickness of a dime who found his way into into that wall or something and brumated, I found him months later just strolling through the bathroom.. I way over reacted when I lost him, he was my first snake but I know where your coming from. If you use the search function and look for "Bottle Trap" you will find plenty of posts that reference them and one is bound to teach you how to build one. Good luck.

I am sure he wasn't stolen he was in the back, the treatment area where no clients are allowed. And I really trust my fellow technicians. I don't know everyone has their eye out for him, but he is so tiny, he could hide anywhere.
