Heating For Cornsnakes

I am new to cornsnakes and will be purchasing one soon, doing alot of research to make sure i do things correct the first time around. Wondering if heating in the tank is an absolute necessity? I am going to be putting the hatchling cornsnake in a shoe box size container that i was told is fine, and as long as the temp in my room is mid 70's wondering if an UTH is needed?

Temps are very important for digestion in a CB (Captive Bred) corn. Making sure, you make available both cool and warm temps are necessary for a healthy snake. There are under the tank heaters avail, that aren't very expensive. Look at or for Zoo Med. That and a simple rheostat or thermostat will help you control the tank temps. The cool side should be from 75-80F and the warm side should be 80-85F. Now, the warm side an go as warm as 88 and the cool could go as low as 70, but the first temps I mention are nominal.
