RED LIGHTS!

Are red night bulbs good for corns? I can't really find a decent answer on the net or from pet stores. I use a UTH for primary heat. I have a UVB light for daytime viewing and I use a 50 watt red night bulb....My corns come out every once in a while. I was wondering if the red disturbs night cycles. I have witnessed by Bearded Dragon being disturbed by red. I was wondering if corn snakes also are disturbed by red lights and keep hiding because of it?

Some will tell you that lights are not necessary for corns, especially UV light.
That could be a bone of contention with snake owners split into two camps...
I believe that UV can help if it's a low forest type bulb.
Cerastes cerastes need UV so do Boleens, and Bredli colour up nice and red with UV so I don't have a problem with it.
As for Red bulbs. The common belief is snakes cannot see either end of the spectrum, red and blue.
I use red bulbs with my carpets and it doesn't seem to bother them...
I tried blue bulbs, but it looked so cold I went back to red.
I know this isn't a definitive answer, just a collection of thoughts and observations made by me.
BTW, I'm no expert, just a keen hobbiest.

I have several cages where a 25 watt red "party light" bulb is the exclusive source of heat 24/7, when the snakes are not brumating. I've been doing this for years and it works great. The snakes get light from whatever room light there is. I don't know of any studies showing that corn snakes utilize (or need) UV light. I've been breeding snakes for 20 years (and keeping them even longer than that) and have never used a UV bulb. Corn snakes spend most of their time hiding and not basking like many lizards and turtles (which need UV light).

Though I don't think there's any harm in providing UV to corns, I'd just be spending my money on something other than a relatively expensive bulb.

I have red lights for night viewing in my snake's viv. It doesn't seem to bother her or affect her cruising at night, she acts the same if I turn them on or if I forget. I know she can see the red light, my guess is that it is similar to twilight to her.
