In my last post I told of my new sanake and how I had got him from somone who hadn't looked after him well.
Now a month on he has a 20 gallon tank as aposed to the plastic box he was housed in for the first year. He has a daylight bulb and a heat mat as aposed to nothing. 2 hides one in the cool end and 1 in the warm.
His previous owner had been feeding him 1 pinky a week I decided with his size (he is just over 3 foot) to put him on fuzzys, he now has 2 fuzzys every 4 days I know this is allot but he seems to need it ..... any advice on changing this amount apreciated.
Finaly he had his first shed with me last night. I have checked it an it is compleat. Like I said in my last post I am real new to this and still unsure on some matters. I have bought the Corn Sake Guide..... Is there anything else I should be doing?

Cheers Lianne

OH MY GOSH...

The previous owner was just feeding him 1 PINKY a week???

I am SO glad that you now have the snake because it seems as if you really want to do what is right for him. I wish you LOTS of luck with your new pet.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with feeding him twice a week right now if he is keeping the food down, and defacating between feedings. I do recommend making sure that he has at least one bowel movement between feedings.

As you start feeding larger prey, you should spread the feedings a little farther apart. I feed my adult snakes 2 adult mice (or two rat pups) every week. I do have a couple of "chunky" corns that just get fed every other week.

When you switch to the next size prey, just give your snake one to start with. Make sure that your snake can digest it OK before moving to 2 mice that size.

I hope this helps!

Hey

I feed my 3ft Miami and 1 1/2ft ball python 2 med. mice a week.
I feed my 2ft normal Aztec 1 med. mouse a week, but i might try and get her up to 1 med. mouse and 1 fuzzie mouse a week.
Is this ok?

Cheers

Alex

Greetings Lianne,

It's nice to hear that you rescued an animal from an abusive owner. It seems like so many people take on commitments to animals that they simply cannot fullfil. It's sad reallly.

The 'Corn Snake Manual' states the following feeding reference; the rodent should be approximately 1-1.5 times the diameter of the thickest part of your corn snake's body.

Cheers,
Jason
