UTH manual says use carpet in cage?

One question leads to another today. So the Reptitherm UTH says in bold print that if you use this product, always put a "carpet" or something down on the bottom of the cage, then substrate like aspen, bark, etc over that so the snake will never come in contact with the glass. But from what I have read on here about these "carpets" they are worthless and a hastle. And I think that if I put a few layers of newspaper down and then the shredded paper/aspen or whatever, she will still burrow under the newspaper. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks again for all your help!!!

As long as you use something to regulate the UTH, then nothing is really necessary to prevent the snake from getting to the glass. Without regulation, the glass will get really hot, and the carpet or something like that would be a good idea. But it is strongly recommended by most to use some sort of regulation, such as a thermostat or a rheostat to control the UTH and prevent it from getting excessively hot.

Check out this thread. It is a cheap rheostat that is very easy to make. I've made about 5 of them before I was able to get actual thermostats.

the above posts say it all. As long as the UTH is regulated with a thermostat or rheinostat, there is no reason to have carpet on the bottom.
