Types of tanks: front closure vs traditional

Hey guys,

I did a few searches on this topic but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. Let me know if this has already been discussed and I just completely missed it.

I'm looking into buying tanks, and from the stores in my area I see two basic options for me:

1. A tall, rectangular tank that opens in the front

2. A traditional terrarium.

I like option 1 because I feel like it would freak my snake out less if I was reaching for him from the side vs from above.

Option 1 has a smaller base and is oriented vertically. I read a few different places that corns like to climb, so I thought that might be good for that reason as well, but I worry about giving the little guy enough space on the heated side. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of tank?

I have one that I had a toad in, and now a gecko. I personally HATE them because the door latches are finicky and it's difficult to get the animal out without removing everything, plus snakes like more horizontal space rather than vertical.

I bought one front opening tank and I dont think I'll ever buy another, but mine has a sliding front glass door, not a fold down or swinging door. I don't like these because it is so difficult to keep aspen bedding from spilling over into the tracks of the doors. Its an easy add on to put a wood or plastic strip in place to prevent this from happening, though. I would go for a higher ground area top opening tank.

I just prefer the top loading one, the bigger the snake gets the more floor space you're going to want. And yes some like to climb but some also never move higher then their hidey spots reach so it's really a toss up in that avenue. You could still provide plenty of climbing height with a regular tank.

for my corns and milks I like the basic screen lid on top aquarium/vivarium. (well, actually my milks are in tubs, but those open from the top as well)

I use to use tanks but then I made my on vivs and have it with a front hinge door the swing down. It is hinged to a "lip" so this prevents any bedding falling out. I love it!! it gives me full access to the viv.

front-opening is WHERE ITS AT! i would never go back to a top-loading viv. the exo-terra ones are especially lovely:
