Feeding question

Were still very new to keeping corns and are still on the learning curve so some help would be appreciated.

Were currently feeding our 16 week old snakes once a week and both are taking 3 pinkies without any problems which is making me think it may be time to move up to a bigger food offering.

Is it time to move up to fuzzies? bearing in mind theyre still slightly less than 4 months old.

If not , when?

thanks

I go by the general 'rule of thumb' that the mice's circumference should be roughly 1.5x the width of your snake. If your snakes are managing 3 pinkies then would guess that they are ready to move up a size. You can get bigger pinks before going up to fuzzies if you need to.

ok thanks

Would you suggest tho feeding 3 larger pinks or dropping to two?

Is it possible to overfeed them , or will they just take what they need?

cheers

Dave

I'd move him to 2 larger pinks or 1 fuzzy (if you think he can manage it). I generally try one each time I move them up a size just to make sure they can take it, no regurges etc. If you are buying from a store ask to see the different sizes and you'll be able to determine which size from there.

When I switch food sizes, I just offer 1 of the larger size for a while. It is going to be different on your snakes digestive system because of the hair and bones. I'd just offer 1 peach fuzzy or small fuzzy for a few feedings, then you can offer two when you think your snake is ready.

You're welcome. Most people don't realize that it is harder for the snakes to try to digest the mice with hair and bones.

We think we might have overdone it slightly lol (see picture) :D

seriously , many thanks and will see how they get on next feeding day.

VERY cute cartoon

BTW, as someone who produces a lot of corns every year, I doubt the ability to step up in food size every time! You'd be surprised how quickly a snake on two pinks can down and digest a peach fuzzy! Once they are over that hump, they really tend to put on size! Not suggesting you rush the process, but if it's scarfing three, it can most likely eat a sm fuzzy with no problem!
