Question about housing in 5 gal

Hi, i was wondering about housing a baby cornsnake in a 5 gal tank. I read on here that you could prolly keep em in there for about 6 months or so. The thing i am worried about is making a heat gradiant. It seems that such a small tank will be near impossible to have a range in temperature. Should i just have it set temperature of 80 degrees or what? Also i am wondering which is better for a 20 gal, a heating mat or just going for the lamp on top. Thanks.

80 degrees works for me. In the summer I kept the supplemental heat off for my corns, because the room was about 80. I haven't given my hatchlings a gradient yet and they're doing fine.

Ok sounds good. One last thing, I hear using heat tape is pretty good. It seems better than pads since they cost less if you only need a small amount, and you can put it right where you need it. Should i use tape or what?

Hey Talon

Its better to use heat tap with racks and shelving units for snake rather than a single vivarium.

Cheers

Alex
