So...it's not for a corn snake, but it is DIY! (PICS)

Hi everyone, I hope this is still ok to post here since it can give ideas for a corn snake enclosure. This is actually for my leopard gecko, but I thought it would still be a helpful post. I decided to make a completely custom layout for my leopard gecko, it's desert themed. I will hopefully make one for my corn soon.

Step One: I got some insulating foam from Home Depot.

Step Two: I started cutting and layering the foam pieces for the cave.

Step Three: The cave is fully constructed here, but still needs to be shaved down.

Step Four: I added some plants. (Real Plants)

Step Five: Lots of carving, shaving down, more shaving, and lots of paint and waiting

Step Six: Added the rocks, and leopard gecko, and I'm done!

Very cool! Great idea, too. I can't wait to see what you do for a corn snake enclosure! =)

Cool, I'm about to do the same thing, but starting with a 4" thick piece of foam that I'm going to carve before coating in cement. What kind of paint did you use? The examples I studied just used water based pigment in the last layer of cement...

For the base coat I just used non-toxic latex house paint, then the other coats were just some craft paint I had laying around the house. They don't seem to do any harm to my gecko, she's been in there for about 6 months with no ill effects.

It's really cool! I'd like to see pics of what tools you used, and maybe a video of you doing the final carving and painting, just a few seconds, next time you make one.

I dont have any pics of the tools I used right now, but for cutting the foam pieces I primarily used a jigsaw. For making the ruts in the "rock" I used a dremel with a sanding disk attachment. To hold all the layers together I used liquid nails for projects.

I'm almost done with part of the one I'm making for my corn. I'm making what will hopefully look like a dead tree stump with holes in the front and side. The back will be covered by dark paper on the outside of his tank normally, but I can remove the paper and see inside his "tree" Once it is finished I'll post it!
