Securing bins

For those of you who use bins but don't have a rack that they fit snugly into, how do you keep your bins secure?

I've seen the use of binder clips, but I am 100% certain that my King could shove it open even with binder clips on.

Bungee cords? Other ideas? Thanks in advance.

You know... I was worried about that myself. BUT since moving a few to Sterilite tubs, I have found that NONE of them have even tried to get out. I know that they could and possibly WOULD if I didn't feed them regularly, but as far as I know, they seem to be content in their little "world".

I have them in stackable tubs... so I only really worry about the top ones. I also put the BIGGEST corn on the top... I figure it'll be more difficult for the bigger one to try to squeeze out than the smaller ones.

Well if your completely worried that your snake is that content with trying to get away from his little slice of paradise, you can always try some vicegrips and maybe a lockable latch; this coming from my experience with wood work.

My King is always looking for greener pastures, LoL. Once, my husband came home and found him on the bathroom floor. I felt SO LUCKY that he didn't just vanish. Now his tank is VERY secure but I was hoping to move him into a bin soon....but I'm paranoid about him getting out again.

I've had corns pop lids with binder clips too. They can also scrape themselves up pretty bad squishing out through the gap they have made. I'd suggest putting something pretty heavy on top of them.

Tara had okay luck with her tank lids being bound by bungie cords on wire racks. If you stacked the bins on a wire rack, and then stretched two bungies over it, that might work.

Maybe also get a bin with a thicker lid, or deeper lid, so that you might be able to drill through the lid into the lower part of the bin. You could then use small locks or twist ties to latch the two together.

Our reptile shop uses bars to keep their lids on. They attached bars to shelving at just the right level for the tank with lid to slide in, but there's no way to pop the lid off without pulling out the entire tank. Something like that might work.

Looking at the shelves I have them on, I think the best solution is going to be to get some 1" thick boards and put them under the bins so they fit snugly.
