Feeding 19g mouse to 80g snake?

Hey my snake is about 80 grams now and will be one on the 17th :) Today is her feeding today(feed every thursdays) but at my petco they only sell 8g hoppers and the next size up is 19g adult mice. I normally feed her the 8g mouse but its never really leaving much of a bump anymore, just a very small one. I bought in bulk and the only mouse I have left is the one adult one I bought, thinking it would be ready. I wont be able to make it out to petco until Saturday evening. Should I wait until then to feed her an 8g mouse or just cut the legs and tail off the adult one and try to feed her that tonight? Do you think she will be ready for it? I dont wanna cause a regurge but she is out of her cage right now ready to be fed. Let me know what would be best! thanks

A 19g mouse sounds way too big to me, for an 80g snake. I think you should stick with the 8g mice for now. Your snake will be more than fine waiting till Saturday or Sunday to eat.

Whenever you do move up, might be good to just double up on 8g mice instead of one
19g mouse. For now, probably be a good idea to just wait for a difference size.

I was planning on ordering online but only have one snake and you have to buy a minimum amount of mice. Maybe when she moves to adult mice I can do that.

-When they're on single pinks (2-3g), I feed every 5-6 days. (Snake = 4-15g)
-Double pinks (3g x 2) every 5-6 days. (Snake = 16-23g)
-Small fuzzies (5-7g) every 6-7 days. (Snake = 24-30g)
-Regular fuzzies (7-9g) every 6-7 days (Snake = 30-50g)
-Hoppers (9-12g) every 6-7 days (Snake = 51-90g)
-Weaned (14-20g) every 7 days (Snake = 91-170g)

-Adult (20-30g) every 7-x days (Snake = 170+) See below.

Note: Adult females are fed more frequently than adult males (especially following brumation). Adult females are fed every 7-12 days; adult males are fed every 11-14 days.

To Quote the Munson, your snake is a bit to small. Close but no cigar.

well my 08 weighs 40 grams and eats two fuzzies a week no problem

Chad, that is over feeding your snake per the previous post, the best thing to do is slow the feeding down to every 7 days.

Also if you read the previous post, you will have noticed fuzzies are fine for your snake.

I dont think its a over feed every 5 days for a very active corn his belly lump only last 24 hrs. even after a meal he is still very active and growing fast. His metabolism is very fast

Guys the Munson plan is a "guide line" not a "rule". I dont weigh my mice I use good judgement on mine. My younger snakes get a meal every 5-6 days, Which is twice a week, Until they reach small adult mice. Then they go to one every 10 days. I have had great sucess with this method. I use the 1.5 times the roundness of the body rule.

As far as giving a mouse to your snake. That does sound like a huge jump. I would rather get two smaller meals in him rather than have him regurge.

Chad I dont think your overfeeding late summer is the perfect time to feed strong. As the weather cools off and your snake slows down, so will his hunger. When it cools down mine go off the feed and it usually takes an extra day or two to digest food when they do feed. This is when I slow down my feedings.

Chad, you stated you fed 2 fuzzies a week.. Thats different than every 5 days. Every 5 days is good but not 2 with in 7.

i know i fed my Ruby on trial and error. when i bought her from Petsmart she was fed a pinkie 2x's a week, and she is my first corn. and when i moved her up to fuzzies i thought i kept her on the same schedule of eating 2xs a week (she regurged) but once i seen the "guide" i started feeding her 1 fuzzie every Wed. (speaking of which, i have to run out once petsmart opens to pick up more food. lol)

Well, When it comes to feeding I think each snake is different. You really have to find out what works best for your snake. The Munson plan is a great tool to use to try to find the perfect feeding schedule that best fits your snake. Some snakes have a high Metabolism and some have slow one. There are a lot of variables. Keeping good records and learning from instance like regurging will help set an appropriate schedule.

ok, so now i have an even bigger problem. I was planning on just feeding her hoppers till she hit the 90 gram mark since shes almost there. However, i just moved us down to fort myers for school. I went to the petco here and they are OUT of hoppers!! They only had pinkies, fuzzies and adult mice. So I didnt want to feed her 4 fuzzies so bought an adult mice. Should I cut it in half or what can I do to make sure she doesnt regurge. She hasnt eaten in 9 days now because I wanted her to settle in to the move before I fed her again. Thanks
