UTH and Sterilite

I was just wondering if a small 5 gallon UTH would be safe to use on a sterilite container? I am worried that it might get to hot and cause the plastic to melt.

Does anyone have any experience with this? If this would not be good, what would be, and how pricey would it be?

I've never tried it as I know that UTH's can get pretty hot. HOWEVER, I have heard of some people attaching the UTH to a tile or something that disperses the heat a little more and then placing it under their enclosure. I know if I were to try this, I would also have lots of space underneath to dissipate some heat as well.

As long as your thermostat is keeping the UTH at a comfortable temperature I wouldn't worry at all.

i do it for quarantine. i do keep a lil space with cardboard spacers on each corner of the tub. and i tape a helix thermostat probe directly to the heat pad. and i set the pad on a piece of flashing which is a piece of metal so that it cant hurt the table i set it on.

I am doing this now with my corn. You will need a thermostat to control the temps. I have not really had any problems with the plastic melting. I have a problem with the pad falling off the plastic.

Thanks everyone for your comments and help. I am wanting to get everything set up prior to getting my corns. Thought this might be the way to go for yearlings right now and then move them up as they grow.

I will difinately have to pick me up a thermostat along with the other items I have to pick up. Again thanks for your help.

A good UTH to get that is safe for most plastics is the Dragon's Lair. It is only sold through Big Apple Herp, I have 3 & I like them better than the Zoo Med one I also have.
