how to make a snake friendly

my miami phase is 8 weeks old and i was wondering what were good techniques to use to make my snake very friendly and not shy. Ive been holding almost every day hes pretty good when holding him but he doesn't like being picked up and wen he sees me he looking in his cage he goes and hides.

When they are that young, snakes are usually very scared and jumpy. Think about it...he's so tiny, and this big old monster is scooping him up. I'd be scared out of my mind too :eek1:

Regular, patient handling should help, but I can't think of too many snakes that enjoy being handled. Most just get used to it and tolerate it. It is in their nature to strike or run when scared.

Yep, that's pretty normal behavior. He may become less shy as he gets bigger but I don't think there is anything you can do besides what you are already doing.

Yeah, it takes time to get them use to you. When they are so tiny, they are very scared, and shy, jumpy. What you are doing is all you can do really to get him more calm and easier to handle or pick up.

Ya that's pretty normal behavior and Ihave be told to walk around my place with a rag on my leg and put it in his cage with them. So they can get use to your scent

my snake is probably in good shape because he doesn't mind being picked up if you get him on the first try. today he was moving fast as i held him and he dropped about 6 inches and my reflexes pinned him down so he would go any were and it scared me but didn't phase him. Ive also been letting out of my hands onto the bed for a few inches and then pull him back.

They are pretty fast little boogers and pulling them back right after setting them down to freedom may make the snake not trust you and risk loosing your snake:( Just handle them slowly for a few minutes a day he'll calm down.

Just be patient, it comes with time. You're doing the right thing, handling him for short intervals on a regular basis. :)
