I am using newspaper as a substrate in my corn snakes enclosure along with a UTH. My question is how layers or pages of newspaper should I use? Currently I am using four layers/pages.
I believe what you need to be concerned with is cage temperature. If the paper layers are too thick it will lower the temp, too few it will raise the temp. You should have a temperature gradient in the viv somewhere between 70 and 88 degrees from cool to warm.
When I used to use newspaper, I had 3-4 layers.
Some times is nice to have like 3 layers and then lots of ripped up papper on top so that the corns can dig a bit.
Just make sure that you dont have like 10+ layers of newspaper because it can over heat the heatmat and then your heatmat will break.
