Keep him grounded

I'm so addicted to....
I absolutely hate this. This is the only cage I have with a standard screen and clips (the clips drive me batty) the other cages are the sliding locking screen and my little ones cannot do this in those cages. Can you see my goldust mot hanging up at the top. He loves it there and I hate him there. It's a love hate relationship thing we got going on here. Anyone have any good ideas of what I can use to plug up that "space". Sorry for the bad pictures but now that my collection is definately growing (yep I got it bad, four snakes in two months and one more on the way) Anyway a decent camera is now on the list. Thank you for any suggestions. I am patiently awaiting the sliding cage to come across craigslist. "can't spend all my money on the housing buying retail, need to spend them on the inhabitants instead" :crazy01:

Lenny makes an excellent suggestion! I would also suggest avoiding that type of cage period. Sliding lids are much better!

I'm thinking along Lenny's lines. Got a space you don't want your snake in? Find something the size and shape to fill that space.
(Caulk, putty, grout......that hardens NON-sticky.)

My golddust mots climb more than almost all my other snakes, too. Weird.

But even in the cages with sliding locking lids, baby snakes can get up in that exact same place. It they want to, they will go there. I say let him have his fun- soon enough he'll be too fat to fit there. Or give him a paper towel roll, they love those! It may give him the same feeling of a long, skinny hide.

Oh, yeah... I hate it when they do that. LOL

I also like Lenny's idea... but if you have a straw that is too thick (and I know THIS isn't part of Lenny's idea), it'll be up there IN the straw! LOL.

One of the reasons I hated having them up there is because IF I forgot to put the clips on, I'd almost definitely have an escaped snake. :)

Nanci's idea of giving him alternatives might work too. Give him LOTS of alternatives and his "up on the ledge" days should be behind him.

Good luck... and NEVER forget the clips!!! :p
