I'm starting to think into winter already, and I've gotten lucky over the past couple of years. We've only had one major power outage and I was able to relocate all of my snakes for a night, but I'm not sure that's an option anymore with the number that I have.

So how do you prepare for an extended power outage in the winter if a generator isn't an option? I live in an apartment complex, so I can't use a generator... I do have a battery backup thing that might work for a short while, but I'd like to invest in something a little more reliable.

There has only been one time in the winter when I had to deal with a power outage and luckily my father has a wonderful kerosene heater which did the trick. I piled everyone into one room, shut the doors and that thing heated the room very well. Of course there are safety concerns but I would assume you would read any manuals and take precautions!
 
We had a few power outages last winter, and all were in freezing cold temperatures without a generator or wood stove. One outage lasted for almost two weeks. If the power goes out I immediately put my reptiles into tubs, and then transport them down to my mothers house, because she has a wood stove. That's about all that I can do, but it works, and definitely saves my snakes from freezing.
