My First GPS

I just got a Garmin Nuvi, my first GPS ever, and honest to goodness it is incredible. Knows where the traffic is, helps me not get lost, even talks and tells me when I need to turn and stuff.

Modern technology is amazing! :p

They are the greatest. I have two of them. I’ve only had mine for about 6 months and they are still in the yellow phase but they are starting to get little green dots all over.

What I like is how feisty they are. When you pull out their tub they can strike about half their body length. They really keep you on your toes.

How old is yours?

I got my first GPS (also a nuvi) a few months ago and I love it! I travel a ton and only use it on my long distance trips and its very helpful.

I appreciate the fact that it is a new technology and loads of fun - my brother has one too.

I, however, absolutely REFUSE to get one. I'm already having a hard time remembering phone numbers because of my cell phone... I don't want to forget how to get to my carport too! :) J/K!!!!! :sidestep:

Seriously, though. IF it'll help my wife be able to feel more comfortable about where to go and all (she's a very nervous driver), maybe it'll be worth the investment sometime in the future.

my dad just bought one for my mom as we just moved here. and we really know where nothing is. its a nuvi 255w. she hasnt used it yet, but i tried it out and its nice.

I was at a loss... I wasn't sure how GPS have yellow phases but I thought maybe became old yellowish with use or something...
The dots got me confused... and the striking part really had me scratching my head... thinking "Gosh that sounds like a GTP"

Only after your second reply was I positive that indeed you spoke about GTP's

T'was amusing :)- in a good way
Thanks

LOL. When I first read it, I was thinking it had a yellow phase (ie a lot of unlearned/unvisited locations and that it was turning green (ie sites had been visited/learned). :) So I didn't "catch" it until later.

I have the Garmin Quest and love it! Unlike the other ones, it also has settings for off road, biking, hiking, and boating, so it's a one for all. You can upload any maps you want from parks to waterways with fishing hot spots, plus being able to walk around with it, it's perfect for Geo Caching...

I want to get one for my wife. I am curious, of those that have one, what are some of the most useful features?

Bear in mind that this is my first GPS, so I have no basis for comparison:

1) I like that the route one is supposed to take is highlighted, you can actually see one's car and the highlighted route.

2) With the model I got, (765T) one gets free traffic monitoring for life. That means that if their is a traffic snafu up the road where you can't see it, the Nuvi can give you the option of rerouting your trip.

3) The Nuvi is programmed with a woman's voice :nyah:

My friend does that! We were gonna go before it got too hot... when the weather is more bearable, we're gonna make sure to do that!

Geo Caching in and of itself would make buying one worthwhile to me. :)

I use sat nav when ever we have to go anywhere out of out general district....
Or if we have to find specific addresses within our district....
I'm the worlds worst navigator, once around the block and I'm lost...LOL
The thing I like about mine is the choice of routes... I can asks for the fastest or shortest journey.... Fastest is always freeways/motorways..... Shortest is always B roads and a much more enjoyable journey due to the scenery.....
It also has Bluetooth for texts and phonecalls, which is a great bonus.....
I recommend them to everyone if they want stress free journeys.... LOL
