Layed off

snakemom1961

Spring is here!
While I knew there was a very good possibility I would be layed off tonight when I went into work, The shock of it actually happening is very rough. Michigan has the highest unemployment rate in the country right now at over 15%. I now get to join that line along with 60 other fellow employee's. This is on top of the over 700 my company layed off in January. I know I have a few friends here that I wanted to let know and hope I can get a prayer from them. I'm just lost right now and not sure what I'm going to do.
Thanks for listening to my sobbing and I hope in a few days I'll be able to get adjusted to this.

I can totally understand your grief and frustration on the matter. I got laid off in May and have been unable to find work since. It's a tough time right now for a lot of people. You're not alone.

Nancy, I am so sorry to read this. I have other friends experiencing similar situations.
My thoughts and optimism and hopes are with you. Sincerely, Eric.

Thank you both. Like I said I pretty much knew this was coming and tried to prepare myself this weekend. But until it actually happens it doesn't really hit you. The job I have there are 2 people with 28 years and 25 years with the company, and I only have 11 years. The chances of me getting called back within the next 2 years(which is the time I have for them to call me back before considering me terminated), are slim to none. I'm a factory rat and have no other skills and now I'm sorry I never went back to school for something else.
This is really tearing me up right now. I'm on my own with no other income and just totally going nuts right now......

I'm sorry to hear that. Do you get unemployment while you are laid off? It's too bad you are in Michigan; I'm sure anything you think of, thousands of other people already have. But check out hospitals. They have a lot of jobs that require no training. Some offer free nursing assistant classes. Maybe if you can get _in_, you can find a hospital like mine that offers tuition reimbursement. Or, I've heard ads down here for IT schools that offer financing. Or, what are the chances of getting a student loan? Many medical fields such as radiologic technology or respiratory therapy are two year degrees, and they pay very nicely! Well, good luck.

Nanci, I have a meeting Tuesday morning that will outline what I have to do for unemployment and possible training programs. I do hope to find something very soon and thanks for the info, I will look into all of it.

Lucille, thank you so much for the acknowledgment, Yes, Michigan is a real tough place right now to find a job, But I'm hoping between getting a good word from my boss and maybe getting training through a program called Michigan works, I'll be alright. Righ now I'm just numb. I'm too old to start over and don't know where to turn. I'm just thankful my son still has a job there even though he's only been there 2 years and I"ve been there 11.

Nancy!!! Ask Robbie about that phone job he got. He transcribes voice mails into text. He typed ~90 wmp in the test. But even if you aren't a fast typist, if you do one of the little typing computer programs, it's very fast to learn!

And you are _not_ too old to start over. My x-ray student classes always have three or four students in our age group every year.

I'm sorry to hear of your trouble Nancy. This economy is really making life difficult. Stay positive, something will come along, make it an opportunity.

I really am sorry for you having to go through this...
It's very unsettling and scary, I can only imagine.
Best of luck with finding another job, here's to your quick re-entry to the work-market

You could sell plasma...It's like free money, and people really, really need it.

That really depends on where you are at. I know in some places you can donate 3 times in a 14 day period and make $250 but here it is $25 a session and you can only donate once a week.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I really hope the best for you and your family. Just try and keep your spirits up and find something positive to hold on to. My prayers are with you.
