I’m using a zoomed uth Size: MED Dimension: 8" x 12" (20x30cm) Wattage: 16 Gal Size/Color: 30-40 with a ReptiTemp Rheostat from zoomed as well but when I set it in low it reaches the amazing temperature of 110F!!!! What should I do. I’m worried Tatzu will be roasted.
I have to plug it for 5 to 10 min and then unplug it..... And repeat......... and repeat..... to maintain a warm 82 to 86. Any suggestions

Can you safely unplug it and just not feed him until you figure out a solution? I mean, is your house above 65-70?

You could go to Home Depot or whatever and get a plug-in lamp dimmer. I have not done this myself, but it could be a quick fix. (I have heard others complain that the ZooMed rheostat doesn't lower the temp enough.

If I were you I would buy a reptile thermostat. You can find the ZooMed on-line for under $30. Big Apple has a cheap-ish model, but I just had one of my two fail on me, so I am no longer recommending it. It failed by just not supplying power at all.

You could fork out $125 or so for a Herpstat and that would be the end of all thermostat issues, ever.

You could _try_ putting a heavy floor tile in the viv, over the entire UTH, to try to temper the heat until you get the temp under control. I do not know how much this will actually reduce it, though. You'll have to experiment. You cannot put paper towels, cardboard, reptile carpet, etc. on top of the UTH and expect that to keep the snake from contacting it directly.

that rheostat sucks for uths. i used to use one when i had a sulcatta before i went to college. but that was on a che and it worked well. if you dont want to buy a thermostat and have available overhead heating you could try to use it with a bulb or che for the time being. or until you get the cash for a thermostat.

I have both of those thermostats and do not have a problem with either one. The cheaper one the 500R you have to adjust to get the temp right because it is just low to high type of adjustment. The other you can set the temp. But otherwise they are both working just fine for me. Good luck

just on a side note. i also have one of them. and then i was browsing some thermometers at lowes. they have one thats just like that one. it does cool side with the module, humidity also with the module, and the probe i use for hot side. and its cheaper. so if your ever in the thermometer market again i say check them out. theyre nice because it can read the ambient because the module reads the other temp. just thought id give you another product heads up for the future.
