I heard corns don't need UVB, but here is the thing i have 2 corns and they are not getting sun light at all, the only light they get is the house light bulb witch we live on for them to know when its morning and night. Should i get a UVB bulb and give them some of those UVB rays or are thy good without them. thx

They're good without, so don't worry about the extra unnecessary expense.

The reason that some reptiles need UV, is that they use it to form Vitamin D3 which in turn allows them to absorb calcium from their food properly. Without UV, the process doesn't happen and they get MBD. These tend to be basking species like Beardies.

However, Corn Snakes have never evolved this dependency. They are able to absorb calcium efficiently from their food without sunlight/UV. Corns are most active at times of low or no sunlight and they don't bask.

Sometimes stores will recommend UV for Corns. This is usually because either a) They say that for all reptiles and view it as "covering their backs" because they don't have specific knowledge of individual species, or b) They want some more of your money!

Corns are known to survive very well without UV.....
Cerastes cerastes are known to need UV.
Boelens need UV
Bredli colour better with UV....
I can't give you a definitive answer on UV and Corns, only that some snakes need it to survive and some snakes do well with it....
It's something I would like to see more research done on....

Well what I use for light is a 40 watt bulb that is used for home used. i have never ever seen one go above 86. While corns don't need UVB a secret me vet told me was UVA stimulates appetite in all reptiles so using a Zoo Med day bulb which has UVA will often get a sanek to be a better feeder. The only snake 100% proven to need UVB and UVA is the scrub python from Australia
