How's this setup?

Lolo

Surrounded by snakes
My new corn snake arrives on Tuesday, and I just wanted to make sure his setup looks okay... I'll be keeping him in this 15qt Sterilite tub with an under-tank heater and dimmer, in a separate room from my current collection for 30-60 days. At the suggestion of members here, I am using shredded newspaper as bedding, at least until he's a little bigger.

I'll plug in everything tonight, and let it run until he arrives to get temps/humidity stabilized... oh yeah, and I have an Accu-rite thermometer I'll add once I drill a hole for the wire. Anything wrong with this (below)?

Pretty, good job he is going to be really happy, dont forget to give him time to settle in before u handel him or feeding him.

Thanks! I always give my new additions at least a week alone (after snapping a few pictures first, LOL), or longer if they don't eat on the first offering... which has luckily only happened with one snake so far. I can't wait to get him! :)

Looks good. I don't know maybe it's just me but I would put some more holes in the sides. I find that if there are too few of the tiny holes the humidity can get far too high and can risk bacteria and potential skin problems.

Other than that looks great, what are those hides made of, did you buy them or make them?

Yeah, I probably should add another row... I use the same tubs for my young BPs, and they have 2 rows on one side & 1 on the other.

They're from Reptile Basics, and the little snakes love them! :)

Moving the water closer to the cold side is all I can think of, unless you're not using a heat gradient.

I think your set up looks good! I keep the water on the cool side so it doesn't heat up and raise the humidity (unless you need to raise the humidity). So that may be an issue.

Other than that he's going to be a happy snake!

Thanks BlueApple! And fancy seeing you here... I'm Lolo76 from the BP forum, in case you didn't figure that out. ;)

Okay, so I moved the water dish to one side (the cool side), which was tricky with the two hides! Also set up the heater & thermometer - ran the probe wire under the substrate, since I know not to use tape or glue. I accidentally bought the one without a humidity reading, so for now I'll just keep that ZooMed hygrometer velcroed to the tub. Looking better??

(heater wasn't plugged in yet - now it's almost fully warmed up)

P.S. I checked the UPS tracking on my snake, and he left Louisville KY an hour ago... yay! :)

Oops... just realized I forgot to add more holes, so I'll do that tonight.

One more question - I didn't make it to Lowe's over the weekend (been really sick), to get a dimmer for the UTH. So right now I have it plugged into my helix thermostat, on top of the BP rack. I was planning to do quarantine, however, and this obviously isn't enough space between them. Is that too risky? I can go to Lowe's tomorrow, but probably not until the evening... so my choice is either to leave the UTH uncontrolled, or keep the snake next to my current collection. Hmmmmm.
