Snake resting on lip of cage

spud

Need more Corns
My corn keeps staying around the lip of the cage lid and is up there all the time, even as i am writing. Why is she doing this, i first thought she might just like to hang out there but as she is up there all the time im starting to get a bit worried.

Does anybody have any ideas as to why she is doing it, at the moment i don't have a thermostat or thermometer so i can't tell if the temp is to high and if that is a reason why she is up there?

They just love it up there, don't know why. She probably wants some sort of little space to hide in. My snake that did that the most eventually abandoned the ledge in favor of curling up in the big leaves of a silk vine.

That's totally normal! Some do that and some don't. You can try to put in branches or boxes for him to climb on or hide in. That may help.

I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Good Luck,

Wayne

Did anyone notice he doesn't have a thermostat or thermometer? I had a uth with a rheostat turned all the way down and I could only get temp down to 100 deg. at glass above uth. got rid of rheo and replaced with repti temp 500r and holds temperatures PERFECT! If you are using an uth it is probably scorching hot in there. Just a thought. Might not be why he is climbing though. I would get thermometer and thermostat asap though. good luck.

I missed that, completely! Good Catch and Good Call!

Kudos to you!!

Thanks Wayne!! I love this site. Have gotten ALOT of help off here and wanted to return the favor if poss. :)

Thanks for your replies. I am getting a thermometer and thermostat asap and in the mean time i am turning the heat mat off and then putting it on during the night. I didn't know that you needed a thermometer/thermostat as the bloke in pet shop didn't say, so i am in the middle of finding the best i can afford and getting that.

I highly doubt it's a heat problem because as Nanci said, snakes love to do this. In fact, there seems to be one of these "snake on lip of cage" threads every week! But yeah, still get a thermostat.

Thanks for that, put me a bit more at ease that it aint a problem. Thanks to everyone who posted

To solve your heat mat problem temporarily, you can put a ceramic floor tile over it, and let that soak up the heat. But without a thermometer to measure your temps, all you're oding is guessing at everything, anyway. Yeah, it was a shock to me as well, with my first snake, that they needed so much gadgetry!!

My tank is on the cooler side and my snake goes along the top edge daily, so I also doubt it has anything to do with the temperature.:)
